Ernie Ball Instrument & Headphone Cable

Ernie Ball just created a cable that has three inputs instead of two.  Now you can run your guitar/bass signal to your amplifier and connect headphones or in-ear monitors (IEMS) through the same cable run with no latency.  The mono cable ends are for your instrument and the threaded 1/8” to ¼” stereo inputs are for the headphones all in an 18-foot cable.  Professional Ernie Ball construction and it works great with multi-channel snakes on stage.  This Instrument & Headphone Cable can also be utilised in reverse to split your signal to another recording interface or digital amplifier.  Either way you use it, this cable is built to last and maintain the integrity of your sound.  Replace two cables with one with the new Ernie Ball Instrument & Headphone Cable so you have one less to roll up at the end of the gig!   www.ernieball.com

Silvertone Amp in a Pedal?

For vintage amp aficionados, the Silvertone 1484 Twin Twelve amplifier is in the pantheon of great sounding amps from the 1960’s.  Silvertone Guitars has partnered with Jackson.Audio to create the new Silvertone 1484 Twin Twelve Guitar Pedal.  The Twin Twelve pedal resembles the vintage Silvertone amp with old, styled knobs, amp jewel light and laser cut stainless steel pedal chassis.  The Twin Twelve pedal can be utilised as a clean preamp, gentle distortion, or a booster.  Controls on the top of the pedal are straight forward like an amp featuring volume, bass, treble and gain.  There is an included card that provides knob position suggestions to achieve certain sought-after sounds. The pedal sounds like a vintage tube amplifier when you run your guitar through it and the overdrive is smooth.  For preamp and booster usages the Silvertone pedal would be ideal to build your other pedals around and bypass the preamp of your usual amplifier. It is powered by a 9-18v DC power, output is 100k OHM impedance and the Input is 1m OHM impedance.  Silvertone and Jackson.Audio took their time in releasing the Silvertone 1484 Twin Twelve pedal and it is worth the wait.    www.silvertoneguitars.com

Woman Tone Pedal by Aclam

The new Woman Tone guitar pedal by Aclam is an amazing effects unit that faithfully recreates Eric Clapton’s sound from back in his Cream days.  The pedal is essentially two effects in box with the Plexi amplifier footswitch to the right and the Woman Tone activation to the left.  The Volume and Gain knobs are designated to the right footswitch and the centre Woman Tone knob controls the left.  There is also an internal dip switch to make the sound even darker.  Aclam pedals also come with their standard pedalboard locks on each side so you can secure them to one of their Smart Track pedalboards without attaching Velcro on your pedal.  The designers behind the Woman Tone pedal truly did their homework as you can easily dial in Clapton’s vintage sounds with this pedal and then mod them to your own taste.  The beauty of it is that it doesn’t require a Gibson SG to reach this sound thanks to the circuitry you can achieve with a Strat or Tele also.  If you’re an EC fan or just relish vintage 60’s guitar tones the new Woman Tone by Aclam is a must have effect!  www.aclamguitars.com

Taylor Urban Ironbark Acoustic Guitars

Taylor guitars has just released a new 500 series of guitars featuring Urban Ironbark wood. The new 512ce and 514ce models utilise a species of eucalyptus wood known as Red Ironbark for the back and sides of the guitars.  The Urban Wood division at Taylor is the department that sources this particular wood.  The 514ce is built on the Grand Auditorium body shape whilst the 512ce is based upon the Grand Concert.  Both feature Florentine cutaway, tropical mahogany neck, and ebony fretboard.  The tops of the guitar are crafted from torrefied roasted Spruce, so they look and sound vintage.  The V-Class bracing adds to the projection of the guitars.  Fretboard Aerial inlays are made from Italian acrylic with a matching headstock and tasteful rosetta.  Both instruments come with the Taylor ES2 electronic system.  Enclosed Taylor machine heads are provided for tuning along with a Tusq nut at the top and micarta saddle at the bridge. The Urban Ironbark wood is stunning on the back and sides of the guitars and looks luxurious.  The roasted torrefied Spruce tops gives the illusion of a much older and aged instrument.  Of the two 500 series models I personally preferred the 514ce for its fullness of sound, but some players will be fond of the 512ce for songwriting and performance.  These are lifetime guitars if taken care of.  I commend Taylor guitars for pushing the envelope on what is considered tone wood and usable for acoustic guitar construction.  With the 500 Urban Ironbark series they have found a wood that sounds as incredible as it looks and should continue to get better with age and playing.  If you are seeking a topnotch acoustic electric guitar one of the new 500 series instruments from Taylor should be on your list.  www.taylorguitars.com  READ MORE ‘TOOLS OF THE TRADE’ IN THE LATEST ISSUE OF MAVERICK AVAILABLE HERE! Roland E-X50 Arranger Keyboard

The new Roland E-X50 is a feature packed keyboard for music arrangers and live performance.  The E-X50 has a pair of onboard Stereo speakers for quality sound output.  It has 61 keys, 689 tones, 256 note polyphony, 18 drum sets, Bluetooth connectivity and built-in Effects.  The Roland Acoustic pianos that are contained in the E-X50 sound stunning and Bluetooth allows you to jam to favourite songs, play to tracks or take lessons.  With the dual speakers you can use the Roland as your music entertainment centre when you aren’t playing and there is a microphone input also.  The 300 presets are easy to access thanks to the LED screen at the top of the keyboard and light up soft buttons.  For beginning and intermediate musicians, the E-X50 provides Auto Bass Chord mode to achieve arrangements with only one or two fingers.  Other connectivity on the back of the keyboard includes a USB port, USB memory port for flash drives and stereo outputs to send your sound to a PA system or amp.  Style Converter software lets you create 30 different custom styles with windows or Mac and load them into the E-X50 memory to access.  The USB memory port makes it simple to record your original or cover songs to a flash drive.  My favourite features of the Roland E-X50 are the auto-accompaniment, large LED screen, mic input and the Bluetooth connectivity.  This arranger keyboard is aimed at intermediate musicians but can honestly do much more than that and a very reasonable price point. The keys feel great and access to all the sounds and beats are easy to achieve through the light up soft pad configuration.  If you’re ready to step up your keyboard game the Roland E-X50 is worth your consideration!  www.roland.com  READ MORE ‘TOOLS OF THE TRADE’ IN THE LATEST ISSUE OF MAVERICK AVAILABLE HERE! HUSH-I Silent Guitar

Musicians need to practice and play guitar daily, but that isn’t easy to achieve when we need to practice quietly and not bother others.  The new Donner HUSH-I Silent guitar is designed so that you can plug in the included earbuds or your own headphones into the guitar and only hear yourself while playing.  What makes the HUSH-I great is that it secures into an ultra-small footprint gig bag that can fit on an airplane, your car, or any tight space.  The leg rest and top bout of the guitar are made of metal and attach with a magnetic Hex wrench that fits into the back body of the guitar.  This is a headless guitar so that you can hang it on a wall by the top metal frame.  The strings feed in reverse with the ball ends at the top and the end of the strings at the bottom where the machine heads are located.  The body and neck are constructed of Mahogany wood and the neck has a flat profile that feels great in your hands.  Electronics wise the Piezo pickup is built into the bridge and the Phase; Volume and two band EQ are on the top of the body.  The strap buttons are located on the back of the neck and at the input jack on the bottom.  The HUSH-I plays incredible and sounds great plugged into an amplifier or PA system.  The only challenging part is using the Hex wrench for the tuning machine heads at the bottom of the guitar, but it does hold tune very well thanks to the bone nut and HPL fretboard.  For the playability, sound quality and features you can’t beat the Donner HUSH-I for the price, and it includes strap, Hex wrench, picks, tuner and earbuds!   www.donnermusic.com  READ MORE ‘TOOLS OF THE TRADE’ IN THE LATEST ISSUE OF MAVERICK AVAILABLE HERE! Rising-G Pro Carbon Fibre Guitar

Donner instruments recently released the new Rising-G Pro Carbon Fibre travel guitar that has an all-carbon one-piece body.  The parametric sound hole, which is located on the upper bout of the body makes it easy for musicians to hear what they are playing.  I was surprised at the fullness of sound and projection emitting from a travel size guitar.  Besides the sound hole placement, carbon fiber construction and rounded edges back of body I believe the added sound comes from the A frame style bracing of the top.  The one-piece HPL fingerboard contains nicely rounded frets, and the machine heads are mini sized but work efficiently.  The top of the guitar is black carbon fibre whilst you can choose the back colour in Cloud White, Carbon Dark, Apricot Yellow, or Sky Blue as the one we tested.  The smooth satin finish on the back of the body and neck makes the Rising-G Pro acoustic guitar a pleasure to play with no hand fatigue whatsoever.  The guitar comes with a well-constructed gig bag and player kit that includes a manual, capo, guitar strap, tuner, guitar picks and an Allen wrench for adjustments.  The cutaway on the Rising-G Pro guitar makes playing up the neck a breeze.  Everyone that saw it displaced in the Maverick Country offices wanted to grab it, play it, and were surprised that it was a carbon fibre guitar.  The only addition I would make to this Donner instrument would be an internal pickup so that you can plug in and play to amplify the sound at jam sessions.  This would be a perfect songwriter guitar to take to co-writes or songwriter rounds since the carbon fiber construction is impervious to weather changes.  I’m a fan of the Donner Rising-G Pro Guitar.  www.donnermusic.com  READ MORE ‘TOOLS OF THE TRADE’ IN THE LATEST ISSUE OF MAVERICK AVAILABLE HERE!
