Morgan Wade: Debut album ‘Reckless’ arrives at midnight!

Morgan Wade releases her debut ten track album tomorrow (March 19th). Wade, now 26, kept her songs and her voice hidden in her younger years, later taking to the stage naturally at age 19, and then choosing sobriety soon after in her early twenties. The album, she notes, is an honest portrayal of her truth, grit and growth. Working alongside Paul Ebersold and Sadler Vaden, long-time guitarist for Jason Isbell as well as an acclaimed solo artist in his own right, the trio shaped songs Wade has written over the years and developed new tracks to create a debut that speaks Morgan Wade’s truth and shines a light on the difficult issues affecting society today. Wade notes influences that span bluegrass, country and pop, with her sensibilities of the latter on full display in “Last Cigarette.” Reckless was announced with the release of critically acclaimed opening track “Wilder Days,” landing on Rolling Stone’s “Country Music Picks of the Week” where it earned praise as a “polished country-rock gem.” “Wilder Days,” as well as additional early releases “Don’t Cry” and “Take Me Away,” quickly earned placement on over 30 prominent playlists, including the cover of Spotify’s coveted Indigo playlist and Apple Music’s Country Risers of the Week, and have since garnered over 1 million streams. Playing the full collection of heartfelt music to fans in a live setting for the first time, Wade performs a stripped-back version of Reckless tonight, March 18, in two sold-out limited capacity audiences at Nashville’s 3rd and Lindsley – livestreaming across the country to celebrate the album’s long-awaited release at 8 p.m. CT. Drake White Celebrates One Year Of Wednesday Night Therapy, Mar. 17

This Wednesday, March 17th, marks the one-year anniversary of Drake White’s weekly Wednesday Night Therapy livestream shows. Drake and his band, The Big Fire, will celebrate the milestone with this week’s special guest, Hayes Carll. With Drake’s indomitable spirit, the voracious live performer was one of the first artists to launch a streaming live show as the gravity of the pandemic became apparent, kicking off the life-affirming hour-long shows on March 18, 2020. Kip Moore, Colbie Caillat, Frankie Ballard, Dillon Carmichael, Ryan Berg of “The Voice,” and Hannah Dasher are among the many artists who’ve joined Drake at his Whitewood Hollow barn in Nashville for a Wednesday Night Therapy session. Seeing Drake White live is far from an ordinary concert experience. Equal parts warrior leader, holy-fire reverend, and gypsy Appalachian mountain man, he fronts his band with a mix of Muscle Shoals groove and honky-tonk grease. The goal? To continue building an inspired community with his voice, country-soul spirit, and relentless optimism, fusing everything he does — from the shows he plays with The Big Fire (his blue-collar band of road warriors), to the events he hosts at Whitewood Hollow, the rustic event space he hand-designed with his wife, Alex, in rural Tennessee — with the big-tent spirit of a revival. Tune in to tonights show HERE at Midnight GMT/7pm Central! To stay up to date on the latest country music news, please register to receive our newsletter here. Katy Hurt announces two socially distanced full band shows for November

Katy Hurt has announced that she and her full band will be performing two socially distanced shows at the end of November, one in London and one in Lewes. Tickets for London are available here and for Lewes here. The event is being promoted by Modern Age Music Roots. Hurt is one of the UK’s most exciting country music acts, especially on the live circuit, with her performances at The Long Road Festival and C2C in particular wowing many. In addition, Hurt also impressed Glastonbury Festival organiser Michael Eavis to the point he put her on the bill for Pilton Party 2018, which was headlined by former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher. Back in March 2019, Hurt released her most recent EP ‘Unfinished Business’, of which the title track and See Ya Later have both racked up over 100,000 streams each on Spotify. In light of the restrictions, tickets will be sold by tables for groups of 2-4 in Lewes and 2-6 in London, while attendees will be subjected to a temperature check upon arrival and will be required to wear face masks in the live room. As well as this, track in trace will be in operation and there will be hand sanitiser stations dotted around the venues. Country in the Afternoon

Country in the Afternoon to return on November 14

Country in the Afternoon has confirmed it will be returning on November 14 for a socially distanced, table service event at The Half Moon in Putney. Tickets are available here. With a reduced capacity, the event has been given the sign off, with the venue having a track and trace system in place, along with fully trained, COVID-aware staff. There will also be hand sanitiser stations and an app based contactless ordering and payment system. Taking to the stage for the event will be Ruthie Collins, thus becoming one of the first Nashville based artists to venture over the Atlantic to perform since the lockdown, three-time Grammy winner Sandy McClelland, Scottish singer/songwriter Chris Mossop and 18-year-old Liverpool based prodigy Megan Louise, who continues to make rapid progress in the UK country scene. Prior to lockdown, Country in the Afternoon – which is organised by Cumbrae Promotions, who also do Millport Country Music Festival – was gearing up for its third event in May, with the first two  events proving to be rousing successes. That was meant to be a two-day event, with Blake O’Connor, Gasoline & Matches, John Gurney and Jeremy McComb on the bill alongside Collins, McClelland, Mossop and Megan Louise, but they have managed to retain half the initial line-up in order to get the show on the road.

Garth Brooks

Garth Brooks announces second acoustic livestream

Garth Brooks is going live once again. During Tuesday (July 7) night’s Inside Studio G, the singer will take requests for his second acoustic concert since the coronavirus pandemic began. The first was a hit, crashing the livestream and ultimately becoming a television special on CBS. Trisha Yearwood was a big part of that broadcast and figures to be involved in the next. She’s often a special guest on Inside Studio G, with the married stars trading questions, songs, stories and jokes. For Tuesday night’s 7PM ET show, fans can tweet requests with the #GarthRequestLive2 hashtag and his team will filter through to arrange something of a setlist. Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, Brooks has continued with Inside Studio G. In addition to the two acoustic concerts, he put on a drive-in movie theater concert last Saturday (June 27) that aired on more than 300 drive-in screens nationwide. Fans mostly enjoyed the night, but it wasn’t perfect. Audio issues plagued some venues, and his produced video performance disappointed others. It’s as close as they’ll get to Brooks — or any other major country star — in 2020, however. The touring industry has been shot down due to the pandemic, leaving artists to find creative ways to get music to fans and recoup lost income. The 58-year-old Brooks’ last radio single was “Dive Bar” with Blake Shelton. He dropped “We Belong to Each Other” last month, but it’s not clear if it will be promoted at radio, despite seeming on topic with the national conversation. See more news here.

Chase Rice speaks out regarding concert criticism

Chase Rice has responded to the criticism he received for playing a concert on Saturday night (June 27) in Tennessee. The event attracted a crowd of around 1,000 fans, with many choosing not to wear masks or observe social distancing practices, despite the fact that the novel coronavirus is still a major concern in the United States. Rice posted a video to Instagram on Monday (June 29), in which he did not outright apologize for his decision to play the show — “I understand that there’s a lot of varying opinions, a lot of different opinions on COVID-19, how it works with live music crowds and what all that looks like,” he says — but instead offered up his sincere concern for fans and an invitation to comply with heath-related best practices at an upcoming show. “My biggest thing is y’all. Y’all are why I get to write songs, y’all are why I get to tour the country, why I get to do live shows and sing these songs to you guys and you guys sing them back. You guys are everything to me, so your safety is a huge priority,” he stresses. “Moving forward, I have a show in Ashland, Ky., on Friday, and it’s a drive-in show, You can take your trucks, take your cars. You have your own space, you can get out of your cars, you can get out of your trucks and party with me. “Please do sing the songs but stay in your own space, stay with the people you came with,” he adds. “The biggest thing for all of us is the safer we are now, the quicker we get to actual normal live shows, which I know we all want.” The venue Rice played, Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary, is a former maximum-security prison turned event venue in Petros, Tenn. A representative for the venue says they complied with COVID-19-related guidelines by reducing capacity from 10,000 to 4,000 people and implementing other safety measures, such as making hand sanitizer available and requiring staff to wear masks and gloves. “We are re-evaluating the series from top to bottom,” says Brian May, vice president of the Brushy Mountain Group, “from implementing further safety measures, to adding stanchions, to converting the space to drive-in style concerts, to postponing shows.” Tennessee’s current guidelines for reopening recommend that event venues “operate in a manner such that persons from different households or small groups are able to substantially maintain 6 feet of separation from other persons or small groups outside their own group during their visit.” The guidelines also suggest that staff take guests’ temperatures and “strongly encourage” face masks, but do not require either. At this time, the state of Tennessee as a whole is not mandating that people wear face masks when out in public. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as of June 28, Tennessee has recorded 40,172 cases of COVID-19 since Jan. 21; a total of 6,155 of those cases have been recorded in the past seven days. Morgan County specifically, where Petros is located, has only had 23 confirmed COVID-19 cases and one related death, though there are no rules in place to keep those from other counties or out of state from traveling to the area. C2C

C2C postponed until 2021 with all three headliners remaining

C2C has been officially postponed until 2021, though Eric Church, Darius Rucker and Luke Combs will still be headlining the showpiece event. On the eve of the festival this year, organisers made the decision to pull the plug following US President Donald Trump announcing his travel ban and had pledged to try and find a rescheduled date in the diary. However,  this hasn’t been able to happen and instead, the organisers have postponed the whole event to 2021, where it will take place between March 12-14. From the outset, it appears that the undercard will be significantly different to the initial line-up, which had the likes of Old Dominion, Brett Young, Tanya Tucker and the Cadillac Three on to begin with, though The Shires filled in for Old Dominion after they dropped out amid coronavirus fears. All purchased tickets will remain valid for the 2021 event as well, though for those looking for a refund, C2C are advising people to go to the ticket outlets that they purchased from. It is also unclear as to what will happen with the pop-up stage artists and how much of the line-up as a whole will remain for 2021, though it is expected that further information regarding this will come out as and when.
