Jill Andrews to tour UK

Jill Andrews, an acclaimed multi-genre singer-songwriter, will embark on her first UK tour in November, stopping in 14 cities. A prolific songwriter, who has achieved over 100 million Spotify streams, Jill’s music has been featured on hit TV shows, including This is Us (‘Only Love Can Break Your Heart’), Nashville (‘Tell That Devil’), Grey’s Anatomy and Beauty and the Beast (‘Rust Or Gold’). Andrews released ‘Rust Or Gold’ as a single, and within days of it airing on the show, the song ranked within the Top 10 on the U.S. Singer/Songwriter iTunes chart. Speaking on her first UK tour, Jill said, “It has long been a dream of mine to meet all of my fantastic fans across the UK and I can’t believe in 2022 I am actually, finally getting to do it. I keep hearing how much people in the United Kingdom love and respect music. So I am excited to experience that for myself.” Andrews released her latest project, The Parthenon Sessions, in June 2022. The EP was recorded in Centennial Park’s Parthenon, which is the only full-scale replica of the ancient Athenian temple in the world. All the recorded songs are tailored to the unique 5-second reverb of the building’s 42 foot tall ceilings. The EP features a string orchestra and four re-imagined songs from Jill’s catalog, including her only recorded version of ‘Sanctuary.’ The song, written by Andrews, Gary Nicholson and Sarah Siskind, was originally performed in Nashville by Charles Esten and Lennon & Maisy Stella, and deemed by The Tennessean to have “led to ‘Nashville’s’ most powerful musical moment.” Andrews is currently working on her fourth full length project, which is due to be released in early 2023, following her run of UK shows.

Caitlyn Smith

Caitlyn Smith’s spellbinding Manchester performance!

There’s always that one name at Country 2 Country that surprises you and captivates you, that has everybody talking throughout the weekend and more often than not, it’s an artist on one of the smaller stages. This year, that artist was Caitlyn Smith. Of course when she announced her UK return as part of Country Music Week, I had to attend! Smith has got a catalogue of fabulously written songs that others have recorded but her latest album ‘High’ which she self produced was one of the best country albums released this year. Only when you see her live do you appreciate that she is in fact the full package though, I fail to see a vocalist as powerful and as controlled as Smith and her stage presence is endearing as humour creeps in to her stage talk. Smith took requests on Instagram before she took to the stage in Manchester and admitted that she had to relearn a few of her old songs to please the fans. She opened with ‘High’ a song we first heard from Miley Cyrus back in 2020 but which Smith co-wrote and released her own version earlier this year. It was a powerful and breathtaking way to start the show. She had the Manchester crowd hanging off her every word, you could hear a pin drop as she told the stories behind each track. She shared her own versions of ‘Like I’m Gonna Lose You’ and ‘You Can’t Make Old Friends’ two of her biggest hits that have been cut by other people as well as sharing fan favourites off her latest album including my personal favourite ‘Maybe In Another Life’. Smith teased that the second part of the album is coming very soon and proceeds to play a song off that upcoming release which went down well with the crowd who met it’s conclusion with sustained applause and cheers so as to get the message of approval to the songwriter. The Minnesota native is also the voice of new US TV show Monarch as she sings the theme tune, penned by The Love Junkies. Though it is not yet available to watch in the UK much of the crowd knew the song as Smith shared how much she enjoyed getting the chance to act in the series too. It was a fantastic night! Caitlyn Smith deserves to go far, she is one of the best songwriters of our generation and her voice… well you just can’t argue, it’s flawless!

Elles Bailey

Elles Bailey Announces Her Headline Tour

The Woman Who Really Does Call the Road Home is delighted to announce her 18-date 2023 headline UK tour. Since she hit the scene, Elles Bailey has built an enviable rep as a live-touring artist and champion of live music, as well as recording hit albums, EPs and singles, not to mention earning multiple awards. Elles’s natural habitat is live performance and touring. Small wonder that she called her sophomore album ‘Road I Call Home’, following her hit debut ‘Wildfire’. She has consistently built her rep within the blues and rock and americana genres, earning acclaim in each and all, year after year; not to mention award after award as one of the leading UK artists in her field. In 2019, the Bristol-based Elles Bailey was regarded as one of the country’s hardest-working Blues/Americana singer, performing over 118 gigs in 17 different countries. However, along with everyone else in live music, her touring came to a halt with the COVID pandemic, lockdowns, enforced closure of venues and bans on mass gatherings. As Elles herself has said, ““March 2020 – they dulled down the splendour, silenced the show, turned off the lights, locked the doors & the live music industry was plunged into the half-light. “ Yet, despite the setbacks, the ever-resilient and independent Elles continued upon her upward trajectory, playing many online performances, winning Blues Artist of the Year 2020 at the UK Blues Awards, releasing singles for charity, and releasing a live album of one performance that, in 2021, was nominated ‘Blues Album of the Year’. Towards the latter part of the year, Elles decided to finish her third studio. This album had originally been started in Nashville but, with travel now impossible, she decided to recut it with her fantastic touring band under the watchful eye of rock producer Dan Weller (best known for his long-term collaborations with Enter Shikari).‘Shining In The Half Light’ earned Elles much acclaim, and thanks to her ever-loyal fanbase, the album not only soared to the top of the genre charts but also appeared on the RADAR of the UK’s main album chart. It has indeed been an incredible year for Elles Bailey, who on the back of her album success has joined forces with Planet Rock to present a regular show on the high-profile British radio station. She also stepped up to support some all-time living legends: bluesmeister Walter Trout on his recent UK tour, has just finished supporting Don McLean on his UK Tour (celebrating the 50th anniversary of the release of ‘American Pie’), and opened for the matchless master of Celtic Soul: Van Morrison. August saw Elles sail and played Joe Bonamassa’s ‘Keep the Blues Alive at Sea Cruise’, and on land in 2022 headlined multiple festivals, as well as playing key slots at Cheltenham Jazz fest, Cambridge Folk Fest, and Wilderness Festival. “I’ve loved every minute of this year’s festival season,” says Elles, “It’s been fantastic taking some of ‘Shining In The Half Light’ — and of course the hits — back out on the road after so long and playing some incredible festivals appearances, but it seems surreal to think that although this album has been out since spring 2022, we haven’t done a full headline tour of it yet! So, I’m delighted to announce these UK dates, in support of this record of which I’m so darn proud! All the shows will be full-band shows and are also going to be celebrating the incredible musicians on this album!Elles adds, “It wasn’t easy self-releasing, on the back of a pandemic whilst juggling touring and motherhood as well, but my fans showed me how just incredible they are, and got this record right to the Number 1 spot! Now it’s time to take the show on the road, support indie music and keep music live!”Elles will be appearing in Autumn 2022 at19th Nov – Whitby Rock & Blues Fest 24th Nov – Planer Rock Presents – The Zeppelin Symphonic at The Palladium 27th Nov – The Harlington, Fleet2nd Dec – Looe Rock & Blues Fest4th Dec – Planet Rockstock https://planetrock.gigantic.com/elles-bailey-tickets-presale-8680

The Long Road Festival

Festival Focus: Everette at The Long Road

Festival Focus: Everette at The Long Road  Everette were one of the talking points of the whole festival! They played numerous times throughout the weekend and each time a larger crowd flocked to see them. They’ve been working hard, writing for the next record with the likes of Matt Jenkins, Aaron Raitiere and Brian Simpson to name a few and we can’t wait for it to come out.   When did you first know you wanted to be musicians?  Brent: Well, I always tell this funny story. I really have a vivid memory in my mind. From when I was a kid, telling my sister, I think I either want to be Alvin and the Chipmunks or Garth Brooks. I knew Garth Brooks got his start in Nashville. So I guess I ended up there.  Anthony: My dad bought my brother and I a cheapo guitar at a pawn shop and a little amp with a little push button for heavy metal distortion. My brother is older than me, so we started playing taking turns but I was always hogging the guitar. Then finally, he got a little bored with it. I picked it up and it started coming a little faster for me, and he got kind of angry. And so like, he would come take the guitar from me. My mum ended up buying me my own, like a harmony acoustic guitar from a magazine, in 1998 or something. I remember sitting there playing and things kind of starting to connect, like, what music feels like what it feels like to play chords to play along with your favourite songs. There’s something about that inside of me that resonated for the first time.  What sort of music did your parents make you listen to on long car journeys and what are you choosing to listen to now?  Brent: My dad listened to a lot of old country, some Merle Haggard, but he also loved old rock and roll like The Beatles, and The Stones and all that great stuff. My mum was really into the 80s pop stuff like Phil Collins and things like that. I grew up going to church a lot. My parents they loved church so we were there a lot. So all the old hymns, all the old hymns and all that it was more of an evangelical style church. So it’s very soulful, very loud, drums, guitars, lots of energy!  Anthony: Sort of a similar thing – church music. My mum and dad were divorced before I was born. So it was kind of like two different lives. When I lived with my mum and my stepdad, it was church. Every day those doors were open, we were in there. We also weren’t allowed to listen to secular music, no rock and roll radio or anything like that. But at my dad’s when I went to my dad’s house, it was like Aerosmith, Alanis Morissette. My dad was a disc jockey for AFN. So he’s playing these rock and roll records, but I wasn’t allowed to listen to them. We started sneaking stuff, and stealing from our neighbours. I remember probably the only thing I really ever truly stole was, we were at our neighbor’s house, we’re supposed to be watering their plants and they had a Green Day Dookie sitting there and I was like, you’re mine. I kept it hidden for like a year my parents never knew.  READ THE FULL ARTICLE IN THE LATEST ISSUE OF MAVERICK MAGAZINE!
