ACM Awards Honors

17th ACM Honors to air on Merit Street with star-studded line-up

The prestigious 17th Academy of Country Music (ACM) Honors will premiere on Merit Street on Tuesday, 24th September, marking the first time the special event will be broadcast on this network. The event, hosted by Carly Pearce and Jordan Davis at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, will pay tribute to some of country music’s finest artists and industry professionals. This year’s honourees include Walt Aldridge, Tony Brown, Luke Bryan, Alan Jackson, Shannon Sanders, Lainey Wilson, and Trisha Yearwood. The show will also celebrate Chris Stapleton, named Artist-Songwriter of the Year, and Jessie Jo Dillon, awarded Songwriter of the Year at the 59th ACM Awards. The ceremony promises an unforgettable night, with performances from some of country music’s biggest names, including Lauren Alaina, Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Terri Clark, Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Keith Urban, and more. Special appearances from Post Malone, Kameron Marlowe, and Jackson Dean add an extra layer of excitement. Trisha Yearwood, recipient of the ACM Icon Award, shared her astonishment at the accolade, saying, “It’s strange. I never thought this far ahead… When you look at the names on the list of previous Icon Award winners – Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, Garth Brooks – it hasn’t settled in yet. I’m just trying to smile and enjoy myself, but it’s very surreal.” Lainey Wilson, who will be honoured with the ACM Triple Crown Award, reflected on the significance of the recognition, saying, “It’s hard for me to wrap my head around. Just to be recognised by the people you look up to, your peers… I just feel so honoured.” Wilson, who has earned major accolades early in her career, added, “It’s really soon to be taking home some of these titles… I’m 32 years old, and I’ve been in Nashville for 13 years. I’m not a new artist.” Carly Pearce, co-host of the event, highlighted what makes the ACM Honors so special: “This show is so special because we not only get to honour the artists that have made major impacts throughout the year, but we also get to honour the people behind the scenes… They deserve to be honoured in a big way.” The evening will also see performances in tribute to Alan Jackson, the recipient of the ACM Poet’s Award. Reflecting on his influence, Carly Pearce shared, “Alan Jackson was such a staple of my childhood, listening in the car. He was the soundtrack to so many of our lives.” Co-host Jordan Davis echoed these sentiments, saying, “Alan Jackson is Country Music… Getting to perform one of his songs is just a very small way to say, ‘thank you for everything you’ve done for me.’” Terri Clark, who will also take the stage, expressed her pride in Lainey Wilson, noting how far the young artist has come: “I’ve always wondered, ‘Is there a little girl in this audience that’s going to go on and do great things?’ And I’m so proud of Lainey. She has pole-vaulted over everything.” The event will also celebrate Chris Stapleton, with Jamey Johnson offering high praise: “Chris is one amazing writer. I’m so proud to have written a few songs with him – and just glad that I get to live in an era where we all get to hear Chris Stapleton songs.” The 17th ACM Honors is set to be a celebration of both the icons of country music and the future stars of the genre, bringing together a night of powerful performances and heartfelt tributes. Catch the event live on Tuesday, 24th September at 9:00 p.m. ET on Merit Street.   To read more exclusive articles and latest news, see our last issue here. Odin S Diona's Help Single

Teen blues sensation Odin S to release new single ‘Diona’s Help’

Odin Sokac, known as Odin S, is set to release his latest single, ‘Diona’s Help’, on 13th September 2024. At just 16 years old, this talented singer and guitarist is making waves in the blues scene, proving that music knows no age. Produced by Fabrizio ‘Fab’ Grossi and Matt Pascale, the track confirms Odin’s deep connection to the blues, a genre rich with emotion that transcends generations. Inspired by Diona, the Greek goddess of rain, ‘Diona’s Help’ carries a powerful and uplifting message: embracing optimism and viewing rain as a positive force. As Odin S puts it, Diona’s rain is “washing away the dirty things and feeding the soil for the grass, trees, and flowers.” The song encourages listeners to find the silver lining in life’s challenges, a message beautifully encapsulated through Odin’s soulful guitar work and poignant lyrics. Born in Zagreb, Croatia, in 2008, Odin began playing guitar at the age of eleven. By thirteen, he had already composed 26 songs, showcasing a remarkable knack for songwriting. His talent has taken him across Europe and the USA, where he’s performed on stages big and small. Notably, he participated in Little Steven’s Blues Camp in Notodden, Norway, in 2023, thanks to a scholarship from the European Blues Union. In early 2024, he represented at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, followed by another scholarship-fuelled stint at the Pinetop Perkins Foundation Workshop in Clarksdale, Mississippi—the legendary birthplace of the blues. ‘Diona’s Help’ follows his previous acclaimed single, ‘Mannerist Blues’, and precedes his upcoming album, ‘In The Circle’. Odin’s collaboration with seasoned producers Fabrizio ‘Fab’ Grossi and guitar virtuoso Matt Pascale promises to further cement his place in the blues community as a young artist to watch.   To read more exclusive articles and latest news, see our last issue here. Jordan Fletcher to release second EP of 2024 ‘CLASSIC’ on 27th September

Country music artist Jordan Fletcher is set to release his second EP of 2024, ‘CLASSIC’, on September 27th. This new collection of original material showcases Fletcher’s ambition to bring a fresh and captivating sound to the Country genre. As an accomplished songwriter in Nashville, with credits including work for Jake Owen, Megan Moroney, and Ella Langley, Fletcher is now taking the reins of his own artistry. ‘CLASSIC’ serves as an introduction to an artist forging his own path in the world of Country music. “We started this project five years ago in Austin Nivarel’s attic,” Fletcher shared. “At the time, we had no idea that the songs we were experimenting with would come to define my sound and me as an artist. We were creating the music we wanted to hear but couldn’t find anywhere else, fusing our favourite sonic elements with stories—some ours, some from others—that we were fortunate enough to tell. ‘CLASSIC’ is a reflection of my evolution as a person, a songwriter, and an artist. It captures the sounds I grew up with and paints the story I’ve spent my entire career trying to tell. That being said, I hope it takes you back home, I hope it takes you somewhere new, I hope it makes you think, and most of all, I hope you love it as much as we do.” With ‘CLASSIC’, Fletcher continues to carve out his unique space in the genre, blending traditional influences with modern storytelling. The upcoming release promises to be a landmark in his career, offering fans a deeper insight into the music and stories that define him.   To read more exclusive articles and latest news, see our last issue here. On 4th October, ‘Live From The Ryman Vol. 2’, the highly anticipated new live album from six-time Grammy Award winner Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit. The album captures the magic of the band’s sold-out shows at Nashville’s iconic Ryman Auditorium, recorded over four of the last six years by longtime front-of-house engineer, Cain Hogsed. The album’s first two live singles, ‘King Of Oklahoma’ and ‘This Ain’t It’, are now available on all digital platforms, giving fans a taste of the electrifying performances that have made Isbell and his band legendary at the Ryman. Hogsed co-produced the album with Isbell and mixed the tracks with Nashville’s Todd Tidwell. ‘Live From The Ryman Vol. 2’ features 15 live versions of songs from the band’s critically acclaimed albums ‘Reunions’ (2022) and ‘Weathervanes’ (2023). It also includes a powerful rendition of ‘The Last Song I Will Write’ from Isbell’s 2009 self-titled release and a poignant cover of Tom Petty’s ‘Room at the Top’. Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit’s ‘Weathervanes’ won two 2023 Grammy Awards for Best Americana Album and Best American Roots Song (‘Cast Iron Skillet’). Produced by Isbell and released in June 2023, the album is a mature exploration of themes like adult love, change, nostalgia, cruelty, regret, and redemption. ‘Weathervanes’ received widespread critical acclaim, landing on numerous Albums of the Year lists, including MOJO, Uncut, and Classic Rock, and praised by publications such as The Times and Record Collector. Since their first performance at the Ryman in 2014, Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit have sold out over 50 shows at the venue. This October, Isbell is set to add to that tally with another eight-night residency at the Ryman, with tickets still available for those eager to experience the band’s electrifying live performances. Isbell, a native of North Alabama, has solidified his reputation as one of the most respected songwriters of his generation. Known for his deeply personal and emotionally resonant lyrics, Isbell’s songs capture the everyday human condition with a mix of thoughtful, heartfelt, and often brutally honest storytelling. He first gained widespread recognition with his 2013 album ‘Southeastern’, followed by ‘Something More Than Free’ (2015) and ‘The Nashville Sound’ (2017), both of which won Grammy Awards for Best Americana Album and Best American Roots Song. Isbell’s 2020 album, ‘Reunions’, showcased the artist and his band at their creative peak and was the subject of the documentary ‘Running With Our Eyes Closed’ by filmmaker Sam Jones. Beyond music, Isbell recently made his acting debut as Bill Smith in Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-nominated film ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’, which won the 2024 SAG Award for Cast in a Motion Picture. Isbell’s time on set with Scorsese influenced his approach to creating ‘Weathervanes’, particularly his understanding of collaboration and execution in artistic processes. Reflecting on his experience, Isbell said, “It definitely helped when I got into the studio. I had this reinvigorated sense of collaboration. You can have an idea and you can execute it and not compromise—and still listen to the other people in the room.” ‘Live From The Ryman Vol. 2’ promises to be a testament to the exceptional live performances of Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit, capturing the essence of their shows at one of the most revered venues in the world. Fans can look forward to an album that not only highlights the band’s musical prowess but also reflects Isbell’s growth as a songwriter and artist.     To read more exclusive articles and latest news, see our last issue here. Raising Awareness for Alopecia: Confidence and resilience in the spotlight

As Alopecia Awareness Month unfolds, Maverick Magazine’s Bea Sumner opens up about her journey with the condition, while country star Molly Tuttle serves as an inspiring figure of confidence and resilience. September is Alopecia Awareness Month, a dedicated time to raise awareness and understanding of alopecia, an autoimmune condition that causes hair loss. This month not only aims to educate the public but also to support those living with alopecia, encouraging them to embrace their unique journeys. Among those using their voices to highlight the importance of awareness is Bea Sumner, Sales Manager of Maverick Magazine, who lives with the condition herself. Bea Sumner has been an integral part of Maverick Magazine, a leading voice in the country music scene. Despite the challenges that alopecia presents, Sumner has been open about her experiences and is determined to use her platform to support others facing similar struggles. “Alopecia is a hard condition to live with, but it doesn’t have to define you,” she shares. “I was even shocked myself at how much losing my hair affected my self perception, but there is so much strength in embracing who you are, and that’s something I want to help others see.” Sumner finds inspiration in figures like Molly Tuttle, the award-winning musician whose talent and confidence have made waves in the country and bluegrass music scenes. Tuttle, who was diagnosed with alopecia at a young age, has become a symbol of strength and self-acceptance. Known for her masterful guitar playing and soulful songwriting, Tuttle has never shied away from speaking about her condition, choosing instead to embrace her unique appearance. With standout tracks like ‘Take the Journey’ and the Grammy-winning album ‘Crooked Tree’, Tuttle’s success is a testament to the power of authenticity. “Molly Tuttle’s confidence and refusal to let alopecia define her, while still accepting it as a part of who she is are incredibly inspiring,” Sumner remarks. “Seeing someone so talented and successful embracing who they are gives hope to so many people who I know from my own experience can often feel somehow ‘less of a person’ because they’re marked as different by a physical condition.” As a part of this year’s Alopecia Awareness Month, Sumner is actively involved in spreading the word through Maverick Magazine’s platforms, sharing her story and encouraging others to do the same. By highlighting personal experiences, Maverick aims to foster a supportive community where those affected by alopecia can find solace and strength. “Although my own condition seems to (hopefully) be temporary, my experience with alopecia has taught me a lot about resilience,” Sumner reflects. “I’m learning to celebrate my individuality and to find confidence in the things that make me different. That’s a message I hope we can share far and wide, not just this month, but always.” Maverick Magazine’s commitment to raising awareness extends beyond just stories—it’s about creating a dialogue that encourages empathy and understanding. By showcasing individuals like Sumner and Tuttle, who have found confidence in their own skin, Maverick hopes to inspire others to embrace their unique paths. Alopecia Awareness Month is an opportunity to reflect on the beauty of self-acceptance and the power of community. Through stories of resilience, like those of Bea Sumner and Molly Tuttle, the message is clear: alopecia is just one part of the journey, not the whole story. And every journey is worth celebrating.   To read more exclusive articles and latest news, see our last issue here. A Tale Of Two set to release debut album ‘Renegade’ following AmericanaFest showcase

The Americana duo, A Tale Of Two, comprised of award-winning vocalist Stephanie Adlington and guitar virtuoso Aaron Lessard, is gearing up for the release of their debut album, ‘Renegade,’ on 4th October 2024. Known for their captivating blend of Americana, country, and blues, the pair has drawn comparisons to artists like Tom Waits, The Lone Bellow, and Ray LaMontagne, while paying homage to the timeless sounds of Patsy Cline and Hank Williams Sr. Critics have praised the duo’s distinctive sound, with Americana Highways noting, “The whine and grit in this duo’s vocals are gripping and noticeably timeless.” Americana-UK added, “It is inspiring to hear a Nashville band with old-time songs and genuine talent.” Produced by Jon Estes (known for his work with John Paul White and Mary Bragg) at Jon Estes’ Studios, ‘Renegade’ features an impressive lineup of Nashville’s top musicians, including Billy Contreras and Elizabeth Estes on fiddle, Jamie Dick and Ross McReynolds on percussion, and Jon Estes himself on bass and various other instruments. All songs on the album were written by Adlington and Lessard, except for a rendition of Tom Waits’ ‘Gun Street Girl.’ The album’s first single and title track, ‘Renegade,’ is already available, delivering a powerful sound with pounding drums that mimic the rush of a train hurtling down the tracks. The song captures the rugged spirit of Appalachian landscapes, reflecting a shift in how music can transcend boundaries. Beyond the title track, ‘Renegade’ showcases the duo’s musical versatility. ‘The Devil Did The Deed’ channels the spirit of Johnny Cash’s ‘God’s Gonna Cut You Down’ with its bluesy swagger, telling the tale of two lovers’ doomed journey. A softer side of A Tale Of Two shines through in ‘By The Light Of The Moon,’ a hauntingly romantic track about a love that transcends life and death. Adlington explains, “It’s a romantic and poignant song about a love that transcends life and death. The narrator reflects on moments with their beloved, who is now a ghost. They remember dancing under the stars and feeling deeply connected.” Over the past four years, A Tale Of Two has made waves across the Americana scene, capturing the attention of audiences at notable events such as the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas and the iconic Bluebird Café in Nashville. Their inclusion as official showcase artists for AmericanaFest 2024, SERFA 2024, and Folk Alliance International 2022 further solidifies their rising status in the folk and Americana genres. With ‘Renegade,’ A Tale Of Two is poised to make a significant mark, blending old-time storytelling with a fresh, contemporary sound that is as timeless as it is new.   To read more exclusive articles and latest news, see our last issue here.
