Surprise Duet Create Magical CMA Fest Moment

A surprise collaboration between Kelsea Ballerini and Noah Kahan became a focal point of CMA Fest 2025, which came to a close in Nashville on Sunday. The artists performed “Cowboys Cry Too” at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium, drawing an enthusiastic reaction from the audience and widespread discussion on social media. Their partnership began at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2024, where Kahan complimented Ballerini’s songwriting on her 2016 single “Peter Pan.” Ballerini had written the chorus of “Cowboys Cry Too” in November 2023 but sought a male voice to complete the song; Kahan’s narrative style and advocacy for mental-health issues aligned with her goals for the track. Despite weather delays that shortened Ballerini’s set, the duet proceeded, with Kahan wearing a “Kountry Club” shirt. Online viewers and attendees responded positively, and some have expressed interest in future collaborations. Ballerini’s country credentials – she is a five-time Grammy nominee and Grand Ole Opry member – combined with Kahan’s indie-folk background and Gen Z following broadened the song’s reach across genres and age groups. Beyoncé European Tour Celebrates Country’s Black Roots

Beyoncé launched the European stretch of her “Cowboy Carter and the Rodeo Chitlin Circuit” tour in London last week, transforming Tottenham Hotspur Stadium into a jubilant ode to the Black pioneers of country music. Striding onstage in a white, jewel-studded bodysuit with fringe chaps, she opened the nearly three-hour set with “Ameriican Requiem,” bidding farewell to the genre’s history of exclusion while heralding a more inclusive future. A poignant cover of the Beatles’ “Blackbird” followed, spotlighting rising Black women in country and underscoring the civil-rights roots of the song. Throughout the night Beyoncé rode a mechanical bull, soared above the crowd in a vintage car and giant horseshoe, and stitched together classics and fresh cuts that spanned gospel, R&B, and country. Fans – many decked in Stetsons – flocked from around the globe, a fervor reflected in Shopify data showing cowboy-hat sales up 288 percent year-over-year. The 43-year-old superstar, who recently became the first Black woman to win a Grammy for Best Country Album, shared the stage with daughters Blue Ivy, 13, and Rumi, 7, during “Protector.” After six record-setting London dates, she heads to Paris for three shows, one coinciding with Juneteenth – a fitting tribute to freedom and the enduring contributions of Black artists to American music. Shrewsbury Folk Festival Bucks Trend with Ticket Upsurge

Shrewsbury Folk Festival is on for a bumper year after organisers revealed that more than 90% of weekend tickets have been sold with more than two months to go. Taking place from August 22-25, the four-day festival is bucking the nationwide downturn in the industry, which has seen more than 70 festivals fold or announce a fallow year in the last 12 months amid a challenging financial landscape. Festival Director Sandra Surtees said with more than 90% of weekend tickets already sold, passes that give access to all four days of the festival could sell out ahead of the August Bank Holiday. She explained: “We face the same financial challenges as every other festival but curating an unrivalled line-up of music, dance and workshops and introducing an extended payment plan allowing people to spread the costs of tickets over the year, has paid dividends. Our weekend ticket sales have been way ahead of last year since they launched and show no sign of slowing down. “A large proportion of our festivalgoers are repeat visitors as they love it so much but we’re always pleased to welcome new faces and showcase what a brilliant event we have in the heart of Shrewsbury. It’s also this time of year when day tickets start flying out. We always say to people who’ve never been to come for a day and we can guarantee they’ll be back for a weekend!” This year headliners include Levellers, Canadian singer songwriter Martha Wainwright and the final UK festival for Oysterband among the line up of folk, Americana and world music. The festival has four music stages, a dance tent with an extensive line-up of ceilidhs, dances, workshops and shows, and a strong family friendly focus with extensive programmes of music, dance, crafts, arts and more for children and teenagers. There is also more than 100 hours of programmed workshops, sessions and activities from music, dance, crafts, yoga, walks and more. Jet Jurgensmeyer Releases Powerful New Single “RED”

Jet Jurgensmeyer, rising country artist and accomplished actor, has officially released his new single “RED”, now available across all major streaming platforms here. Jurgensmeyer co-wrote “RED” alongside Ericca Latza and Kayleigh Clark. The idea came to him while he was driving to their writing session, which marked the first time all three collaborators were in a room together. Wanting to bring something unique and meaningful to the table, Jurgensmeyer pitched a concept centered around the color red – a symbol that took on a deeper significance as the writing process unfolded. “I am super excited about this release,” Jurgensmeyer shares. “I love the song ‘Human’ by Cody Johnson and the message behind it, and I really wanted to create something in that same spirit for my own project – a song that brings people together.” The trio explored how “red” represents universal experiences such as hard work, love, pride, and humanity – from red dirt on blue-collar boots to the stripes of the American flag, the song expresses how, regardless of our backgrounds or differences, we all bleed red. The track was recorded at Farmland in Nashville (Berry Hill) and produced by Jet alongside Dan Frizsell. “RED” follows closely on the heels of Jurgensmeyer’s previous single, “Going Next”, which was co-written with Andrew Rizzuto. The emotionally charged track captures the essence of deep connection, telling the story of a girl who stands by his side through every twist and turn. With warmth, understanding, and unwavering compassion, she helps the relationship push forward despite any challenges they face. The song reflects on how shared history shapes the path ahead, asking, “where are we going next?” Accompanied by acoustic elements, the song highlights emotional vulnerability and the importance of direction in a relationship. These singles build on the momentum of Jurgensmeyer’s 2024 album, THE RIDE: phase 2, released in July of 2024. The album features a collection of 11 tracks that blend country, rock, and pop into a cohesive and innovative sound. It includes fan favorites like “Good Days,” “Coffee Bar,” and “Falling Too,” with each song written or co-written by Jurgensmeyer. THE RIDE: phase 2 pushes the boundaries of Jurgensmeyer’s songwriting, offering meticulously crafted lyrics that dive deep into themes of love, identity, growth, and emotional resilience. His poetic storytelling and creative arrangements invite listeners into a rich narrative landscape that challenges and inspires. The album is available now on all streaming platforms here. Beyond the music industry, Jurgensmeyer has made a name for himself as an award-nominated actor, delivering remarkable performances in both comedic and dramatic roles. Notable appearances include the series regular role of “Boyd” on FOX’s hit comedy, Last Man Standing, as well as lending his voice to the lead character, Pip the Penguin, in the Disney animated series, TOTS. In addition to his thriving acting career, Jurgensmeyer has accumulated an impressive list of film credits, including roles in Disney’s Adventures in Babysitting, Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie, Ferdinand, and American Sniper. He has also made appearances in popular television shows such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Grey’s Anatomy, and Black-ish. Jurgensmeyer’s talent extends to voice acting, with significant roles in Nickelodeon’s Shimmer and Shine, Bubble Guppies, Amazon’s Stinky & Dirt, and Disney’s Special Agent Oso and Pickle and Peanut. Jurgensmeyer continues to make a name for himself as an award-nominated actor, delivering remarkable performances in both comedic and dramatic roles. His talent extends beyond the screen, with significant contributions to philanthropic endeavors, including his support for The Ryan Seacrest Foundation.

Dustin Lynch’s Latest Single “Easy To Love” Hits the Country Music Airwaves

Ten-times Country Radio #1 Hitmaker Dustin Lynch proves it’s “Easy To Love” his latest single as it secured the most adds at country radio this week with 78 adds via Broken Bow Records. Flipping the title of his brand-new single in an unexpected way, the Multi-Platinum star is the first to admit he’s stubborn, restless, and tough to pin down when it comes to matters of the heart. “‘Easy To Love’ is the Number One Most Added! Rob Williford Drops Trailer for Highly Anticipated Short Film “Johnny & Jenny”

Following his recent album and short film announcement, both entitled Johnny & Jenny (out June 27), GRAMMY Award-nominated songwriter, artist, and producer Rob Williford has dropped the official trailer for the short film. Produced and directed by award-winning filmmaker Dustin Haney, the visual offers a cinematic take on the project as a whole, bringing to life the characters introduced on the album. The 14-song album, produced by Andy Park, marks a bold leap into storytelling-driven country music, while the short film deepens its narrative arc, weaving together themes of addiction, betrayal, and redemption in a Southern gothic style. “I enlisted the help of my friend Dustin Haney who, from the jump, wanted to be a part of things,” Williford explained of the project’s cinematic endeavour. “It’s pretty miraculous, as there was no way I could have afforded him. But he listened to the record and just… got it. A few weeks after sending it to him, he sent me a script, and we were off to the races. I’m excited for people to have access to the music in a way that puts visualisation to it.” The album has already yielded four released singles – project lead-off single, “Johnny,” a song about addiction, adultery, and murder; dismal “Beautiful Breakdown”; a cover of classic Motown hit “Ain’t No Mountain” (originally made famous by Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell); and most recent release, “Jenny,” which introduces Johnny’s counterpart who, despite the best of intentions, has made a series of bad decisions, leading to a sort of bittersweet entrapment. All four tunes have been accompanied by music videos featuring footage from the unreleased short film, giving fans a glimpse into what’s to come. Outlaw Country Meets Rock Rebellion in Brandon Wayne’s Latest Johnny Cash Cover

With his signature fusion of outlaw country with hard rock energy, Long Beach-based artist Brandon Wayne has unveiled his latest release, “Folsom Prison (Fuck You Brandon Wayne)”. The single is a thunderous reimagining of the Johnny Cash classic, complete with stomping drums, gritty vocals, and an unexpected chant that flips self-loathing into self-liberation, Part homage, part rebellion, the track leans fully into imperfection, recorded live with all the rough edges intact. Brandon’s distinctive growl carries the weight of regret and freedom alike, while the shouted “Fuck you, Brandon Wayne” transforms the song into a cathartic, punch-in-the-gut moment. Produced by Wayne and Andres Alzate, the track features Ian LeBlanc on drums and Tobin Gomez on fiddle. Wayne’s last single, “Bad Habits,” was covered by Wide Open Country and Jammerzine, and his performances are known for their ferocity and charm in equal measure.
