Twinnie, Foreign Affairs and Noah Guthrie added to Nashville Meets London festival lineup

Nashville Meets London festival has added Twinnie, Foreign Affairs and Noah Guthrie to their stellar line up, which will take place on July 27 in Canary Wharf, London. Twinnie has been dubbed a standout act by Rolling Stone magazine and is very much tipped for big things within the country music genre, while Foreign Affairs have made a big name for themselves as a country rock duo. Guthrie will be well known by fans of ‘Glee’, given that he played the role of Roderick Meeks, while he also reached the semi-finals of the 13th series of America’s Got Talent. The trio join the likes of Lauren Alania, Sarah Darling and Robert Vincent on the bill, with the one-day festival – which is free to attend  – being located at Canada Square Park in Canary Wharf.

Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real

Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real to release second album on June 14

Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real have announced that their second studio album, ‘Turn Off The News (Build a Garden)’, is to be released on June 14. The record – which has been recorded at Shangri-La in Malibu and the Village Studios in West Los Angeles – will mark the follow up to the self-titled debut album that was released in August 2017. Speaking to Maverick back in October 2018, Nelson revealed that he never wants to stand still when it comes to creating music and that he had a fair amount of songs for ‘Turn Off The News (Build a Garden)’ ready and waiting to be mixed. “I’m always moving in a different direction. I’ve never really been an artist that stayed in one place, so it’s always some new interpretation, always something new to test my vocals, always something new for my guitar work and that reflects in my songs. There’s nothing stagnant about what we’re doing. “There’s new inspiration all the time and it changes as time goes by, so for the new record – we just finished the new record, we’ve got 13 or 14 songs done and we’re going to go in and mix them and will hopefully have something for a spring release – might sound completely different.” Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real will also be entertaining UK audiences this summer – on June 27, he will be performing at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London with The Wandering Hearts as support, while the next day (June 28), he will be appearing at Glastonbury Festival. Also, on July 14, Nelson will be performing at Hyde Park in support of Neil Young.

Zikmi

Lifestyle Review – Zikmi app for guitar protection

In every issue of Maverick, Eric Dahl – our Lifestyle Editor – runs his expert eye over the latest musical toys to be released into the world and the latest one to catch his attention is the Zikmi app that can help protect your guitar I’m a big fan of technology that expands our music or protects it. Zikmi is an awesome app that allows you to tag your instruments, amps and pedals, organise them inside the app and tag them to track where they are. You can also track guitar repairs, string changes and battery replacements per instrument. It is a community of like-minded instrument folks that play, collect or both. The Smart Tag, considering the amount of guitar thefts, is great insurance for your instrument and you can sell or buy on it too, or just maintain your own gear with the app.

The Rising

Album Reviews: The Rising – 'Moving On'

The Rising MOVING ON Renegade Maverick Records **** An exemplary follow up album After bursting on the scene in 2014 with their debut album ‘Coming Home’, fans of Northern Ireland band The Rising had to wait four years until they got a follow up, which is in the shape of ‘Moving On’. Lead singer Chantelle McAteer takes every given opportunity to show off her tremendous vocals, while the accompanying instrumental elements made up by Chris Logan (guitars, banjo, mandolin) and Brian Mellors (bass) merge expertly with her voice. The first half of the album is very strong, with the likes of Forgive and Not Forget, Even the Stars Fall For You and Reasonable (which has a superb bassline in) all standing out, while the second half is backed up by Take a Hint and Finally Found You, both of which are excellent. If there is any criticism to be levelled, it’s that the overall production of some of the tracks is a tad questionable – you get the feeling on the title track in particular that if the vocals were more polished, it could be a blockbuster of a hit – but this is outweighed by the overall quality of the songs themselves. Plus, if it really bothers you that much, go and see them live – these songs are sure to bring the house down as the trio continue their ascension in the music world. A thoroughly enjoyable listen from a band definitely on the up. Rob Ramsey www.therisingmusic.com
