Exclusive: Jerry Castle releases new song 'Stars Align'

Americana star Jerry Castle has released a new song titled Stars Align, which is taken from his upcoming record ‘Midnight Testaments’, available on October 16. You can listen to the track below.   Recorded at Trace Horse Studio in Nashville, ‘Midnight Testaments’ is an album that very much channels his Music City surroundings, with a very strong country vibe throughout. Speaking about the song, Castle said that it was an example of him writing a song that was just lyrics and with no music, while also elaborating on some of the song meaning. “I wrote all of the lyrics to this song before I ever picked up a guitar and put music to it,” Castle said. “The song is about the fact that sometimes you can do everything right and things still don’t work out the way you want. “Nonetheless, the ride of life is a beautiful one. It takes the downs to make the ups feel good and it takes the ugly to make you recognise the beautiful.” Jerry Castle has been very busy in 2020 and has released a number of singles, including hits like Make Do, Calm and Tequila & Tears. It is expected that all of these single releases will be appearing on ‘Midnight Testaments.’

Jessie Buckley shares 'Working on the Frontline' for those fighting COVID-19

Jessie Buckley, through her band Jessie & the Leonards, has released a new song titled Working on the Frontline, which is dedicated to those who have been tackling the pandemic head on. You can see the video below. [wpdevart_youtube]OW1iHv12eZc[/wpdevart_youtube] Written by Kate St John and Neill MacColl, while also featuring the talents of Hannah Grace Deller, the song is from the first person perspective of an NHS worker in this climate, while the video powerfully accompanies the track. Speaking about the song, Buckley thanks both St John and MacColl for the song and heaped praise on the NHS, while also expressing her hope that people pay attention and listen to the song. “While the sky was falling we spoke from distant places, hoping we were all ok and worrying when we weren’t, wondering if or when we might be able to meet again to play music,” Buckley said. “The whole world was upside down. Neill MacColl and Kate St. John, my amazing and talented beautiful soul-friends found a way to put a chink of light in the shutters and get the band back together. “More importantly, they have written a great song that tells a very honest and raw story of what it has meant to be on the front line as an NHS worker during the COVID pandemic. “I hope that we and our governments are awake to the incredible, invaluable force that is the NHS.  I can’t love Kate and Neill and Hannah enough for making this song happen. I hope the world will listen.” Jessie Buckley caught the eye of the music world when she took on the character Rose for the film ‘Wild Rose’, which is about a Scottish woman trying to juggle her country music dream as well as being dedicated parent. Buckley took the character on tour, appearing at Black Deer Festival and The Long Road Festival in 2019.

Chris Stapleton announces new album

“Starting Over”, the highly anticipated new studio album from Chris Stapleton, is out 13th November on Mercury Records Nashville. Written by Stapleton and Mike Henderson, “Starting Over” begins an album of startling prescience—completed in late February only days before the lockdown began. Across its fourteen tracks are songs that examine life’s simplest joys and most serious struggles. Alongside eleven written by Stapleton with both longtime friends and new collaborators are three carefully chosen covers: John Fogerty’s “Joy Of My Life” and Guy Clark’s “Worry B Gone” and “Old Friends.” The resulting album—both timely and timeless—it transcends the current moment in ways unimaginable even while it was being created. The album finds Stapleton back in his second home, Nashville’s historic RCA Studio A (with additional work done at Muscle Shoals Sound and Compass Sound Studio), surrounded by his trusted collaborators as well as some new faces. Produced by Dave Cobb (who also plays acoustic guitar), the record features his beloved wife, Morgane Stapleton (vocals, tambourine), with longtime bandmates J.T. Cure (bass) and Derek Mixon (drums). Special guests include legendary musicians Mike Campbell (electric guitar), Benmont Tench (Hammond B3 organ) and Paul Franklin (pedal steel) as well as the Nashville Urban Choir who are featured on “Watch You Burn,” written by Stapleton and Campbell. Kentucky-born Stapleton is a 5x Grammy, 10x CMA and 7x ACM Award-winner and one of the country’s most respected and beloved musicians. Following 2015’s quadruple platinum breakthrough solo debut album Traveller, Stapleton released two No. 1 albums in 2017. Both From A Room: Volume 1 (certified platinum) and From A Room: Volume 2 (certified gold) take their name from legendary RCA Studio A, where they were recorded with Cobb. Released to overwhelming critical acclaim, The Tennessean praises, “Both are rich with the textures of Stapleton’s vocals that make him one of country music’s most beloved artists, classic country sounds and thoughtful articulate lyrics about love, life and pain.” He was recently announced as the first-ever “Artist-Songwriter of the Decade” recipient by the Academy of Country Music and, next year, will be the subject of a new exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Stapleton’s “All-American Road Show” tour is planned to resume next year. Highlights include headline shows at Washington State’s Gorge Amphitheatre, Chicago’s Wrigley Field, New York’s Madison Square Garden and “A Concert for Kentucky”—a special performance benefitting his newly created Outlaw State of Kind Hometown Fund to be held at University of Kentucky’s Kroger Field on 24th April. Presented by Live Nation, the performance is the first concert ever held at UK’s Kroger Field and will feature very special guests Willie Nelson & Family, Sheryl Crow and Yola. 100% of the concert’s net proceeds will go toward Chris and Morgane Stapleton’s Outlaw State of Kind Hometown Fund. Established in partnership with the Blue Grass Community Foundation, the fund will specifically support local and national organizations directly impacting Kentucky, with initial grant distributions focusing on music and arts education. See below for complete itinerary. Bob Harris

Bob Harris charity single StandByMe (2020)

Music legend, Bob Harris OBE celebrates 50 years in broadcasting this month with a collaboration single StandByMe 2020. From his early days on Radio 1, to the TV Show The Old Grey Whistle Test and to helping co-launch Time Out, he’s done it all. He’s one of the most respected broadcasters in the business, having worked with some of the biggest names in British music. As part of his 50th celebration he’s organising a new charity single of his favourite song – Stand By Me, with proceeds going to Help Musicians. #StandByMe (2020) is a star-studded new charity single raising funds for Help Musicians, the 99-year-old charity that continues to provide vital support to thousands of music creators during this unprecedented time.  Available from October 27th via Under The Apple Tree Records, in partnership with Absolute Label Services, all funds are being raised via the #StandByMe Go Fund Me page which is now live! See here. A huge array of artists have come together under the banner ‘Whispering Bob’s Allstars’ to perform the song remotely, including: Mark Knopfler, Rosanne Cash, Paul Rodgers, PP Arnold, Peter Frampton, Mica Paris, Rick Wakeman, Richard Thompson, Beth Nielsen Chapman, John Oates, Leo Sayer, The Shires and Ward Thomas plus many more – see below for full list. This new recording of the Ben E King classic is spearheaded by the legendary Bob Harris OBE, who celebrates 50 years in broadcasting this year. What better way to mark the occasion than inviting some of his favourite artists to come together to perform his favourite song, 60 years to the day it was originally recorded (27 October 1960) and raise money for a wonderful cause – Help Musicians. Bob Harris OBE, describes how,  “COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on the UK music scene. The artists who rely on live performances for their income have been particularly hard hit. For the past six years Under The Apple Tree has been a fantastic platform for emerging artists and now, in this time of difficulty, we want to raise funds to help the diverse and dedicated grass roots music community that we love so much.” Help Musicians is an independent charity with an extraordinary history. For nearly 100 years, it has provided a broad spectrum of help, support and opportunities to empower musicians aged 18+, at any stage of their career or retirement, from times of great need to times of opportunity, providing a lifetime of support when it is needed most.  Help Musicians aims to make a meaningful difference to the lives of professional musicians and is passionate about creating a world where musicians thrive. James Ainscough, CEO Help Musicians commented, “We’re delighted that Bob Harris OBE, a Help Musicians ambassador for many years, has instigated this wonderful project. Music has sustained so many of us during lockdown, yet tens of thousands of musicians have had their income wiped out. It is through fundraisers such as this that the Help Musicians team can continue to provide the broad range of support that is needed now more than ever.  Thanks to those generously donating, Help Musicians has been able to offer financial hardship support, creative development opportunities and a vital mental health service which reaches the entire music community during this difficult time. We’d like to extend a huge thank you to Bob and the team for their continued support, and to everyone who donates to this unique single.” Show your support for the charity and the industry and check out the #StandByMe (2020) Go Fund Me page, which is now live HERE.
