Willie Nelson

Willie Nelson delays 'First Rose of Spring' launch until July 3

Willie Nelson has taken the decision to delay his forthcoming album ‘First Rose of Spring’ until July 3 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. You can pre-order the album here. Initially, the album from Nelson was due to be released on April 24, but has now been shelved until July – presumably as a direct result of the pandemic, which has forced a number of other artists to push back their record releases and postpone their tours. So far, Nelson has released two songs from the record in his Chris Stapleton cover of Our Song and the title track and the record would’ve been his first since he won Best Country Solo Performance for Ride Me Back Home at the 2020 Grammy Awards. The tracklisting for ‘First Rose of Spring’ by Willie Nelson is: 1. First Rose of Spring – (Randy Houser, Allen Shamblin, Mark Beeson) 2. Blue Star – (Willie Nelson, Buddy Cannon) 3. I’ll Break Out Again Tonight – (Sanger ‘Whitey’ Shafer, Doodle Owens) 4. Don’t Let The Old Man In – (Toby Keith) 5. Just Bummin’ Around – (Pete Graves) 6. Our Song – (Chris Stapleton) 7. We Are the Cowboys – (Billy Joe Shaver) 8. Stealing Home (Marla Cannon-Goodman, Casey Beathard, Don Sampson) 9. I’m The Only Hell My Mama Ever Raised – (Wayne Kemp, Bobby Borchers, Mack Vickery) 10. Love Just Laughed –(Nelson, Cannon) 11. Yesterday When I Was Young (Hier Encore) – (Charles Aznavour, Herbert Kretzmer)

The Shires

The Shires lose out on UK Number One album to Niall Horan

The Shires have been unsuccessful in their quest to achieve a career first UK Number One album as Niall Horan pipped them to the punch. The duo – made up of Ben Earle and Crissie Rhodes – were leading the former One Direction man in the midweek charts with their fourth record ‘Good Years’, but a late surge saw Horan pull away and claim his first UK Number One album with ‘Heartbreak Weather’. In the end, The Shires came third – with Lewis Capaldi’s ‘Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent’ clinging onto second spot after 44 weeks in the album charts – meaning that their career peak in the UK Album Charts remains at number three, which is where ‘My Universe’ and ‘Accidentally on Purpose’ both charted. However, it is almost certain that the duo will pick up their fourth UK Country Number One album, given the position in which ‘Good Years’ finished on a national scale. Prior to C2C being postponed, the duo were set to become the first British act to be billed as a Main Stage act following Old Dominion’s cancellation, while they are also scheduled to go out on an extensive UK tour. Given the current pandemic though, it seems only a matter of time until the group have to reschedule their dates as their tour is set to start at the end of April.

Kenny Rogers

Country music legend Kenny Rogers passes away aged 81

The country music world has been rocked after iconic artist Kenny Rogers passed away at the age of 81 from natural causes. Rogers had a hugely successful career, winning six CMA Awards and three Grammy Awards in an illustrious life that lasted 60 years and saw him claim 24  Number One songs. Some of those singles are hailed as some of the best country tracks of all time, including the likes of Lucille, The Gambler and his duet with Dolly Parton, Islands in the Stream. In 2013, Rogers performed the legend slot at Glastonbury Festival and his song The Gambler, which was used as something of an anthem for England’s 2007 rugby World Cup campaign, was performed twice. Later on that year, Rogers was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame while the Texas born artist was also inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in 2017. His family confirmed the news and speaking in a statement, they hailed the impact that Rogers had left on the not only the genre of country music, but for American music as a whole. “Kenny Rogers left an indelible mark on the history of American music,” the statement read. “His songs have endeared music lovers and touched the lives of millions around the world.

Scotty McCreery

Scotty McCreery reschedules UK and Ireland tour, but is forced to cancel Bristol date

Scotty McCreery has postponed his May UK tour back until October, but has unfortunately had to axe his headline date in Bristol. All original tickets remain valid, while tickets for the UK shows are available here and Ireland shows here. The COVID-19 pandemic has understandably caused chaos for just about every touring artist around the world and McCreery is no different, though he has found replacement dates for almost all of his gigs. The only exception is the Bristol date, which was not able to be rescheduled and speaking about the decision, McCreery stated that human safety comes first and that he is very sorry about the cancelled gig, but is hopeful that the logistics of the London date ensure that fans in that area don’t miss out. “I’ve really been looking forward to coming over this Spring, but my first priority is the health and safety of my fans, venue owners and staff and my band and crew,” said McCreery. “It may be a few months later than we had originally planned, but I can’t wait to come over to the UK and Ireland in October and see everyone. We will all get through this together.” “I’m so sorry Bristol. I am very disappointed that I’m not able to perform in your city on the rescheduled tour. I hope to be there on a future UK tour and I hope some of you are able to come to our London show since it is now on a Saturday.” The new dates for the Scotty McCreery UK tour are: October 1 – O2 Ritz, Manchester, England October 3 – O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, London, England October 5 – Old Fruitmarket, Glasgow, Scotland October 6 – The Limelight*, Belfast, Northern Ireland October 7 – Academy, Dublin, Republic of Ireland

The Wandering Hearts

The Wandering Hearts postpone April tour until further notice

The Wandering Hearts have announced that they will be postponing their upcoming April UK tour until further notice following the COVID-19 pandemic. The trio were set to embark on a 13-date tour across the UK commencing in the middle of April, but government measures – which have forced many other artists to cancel/postpone their touring commitments as well – have taken their toll. Taking to their social media, the group – made up of Chess Whiffin, AJ Dean and Tara Wilcox – expressed their dismay that they had to pull the plug on their tour, but stressed that they only did so on the basis that those attending would be safer as a result of it. “We are gutted to have to do this but safety first,” the band said in a statement on social media. “We are postponing our April tour to a later date which our team is fiercely working on now. We really hoped it wouldn’t come to this but we can’t put anyone at risk. “We love you guys & we promise to get back on the road as soon as we are able. All ticket holders will be emailed information regarding ticket refunds. If you instead wish to keep hold of your tickets, we will notify you as soon as the new dates are in place. Stay safe and make the most of your time.” The Wandering Hearts have been on a tremendous rise over the last few years and their second album is expected to drop at some point in 2020.

Kacey Musgraves

Kacey Musgraves set at Glastonbury on hold after festival postpones

Kacey Musgraves will have to wait an additional year to perform at Glastonbury once more, as the festival has announced that it will be postponing until 2021. The festival announced in a statement that due to recent government measures and amidst all the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, they cannot go ahead as planned and instead will be making 2020 a fallow year. “We are so sorry to announce this, but Glastonbury 2020 will have to be cancelled and this will be an enforced fallow year for the festival,” festival organisers Michael and Emily Eavis said in a statement. “Clearly this was not a course of action we hoped to take for our 50th anniversary event, but following the new government measures announced this week – and in times of such unprecedented uncertainty – this is now our only viable option. “We would like to send our sincere apologies to the 135,000 people who have already paid a deposit for a Glastonbury 2020 ticket.” Ticket holders can rest easy though – if you already have a ticket, it is still valid for the rescheduled dates next year. Anyone who would still  like a refund can apply to do so before September. Glastonbury 2020 was set to be headlined by Kendrick Lemar, Paul McCartney and Taylor Swift, with it being fully expected that Musgraves would be on the Pyramid Stage. It was also presumed that Kacey Musgraves would be using Glastonbury as an anchor for a UK tour, so whether that comes to fruition or not now remains to be seen.

With She’s A Self Made Man, I wanted to write a song about the up-and-down ride that Megan and I have been on for the past 10 years of building Larkin Poe. It’s hard to know who you are and it can take time to figure out what your purpose is, but I feel thankful that in recent years, my own feelings have started to click and make sense. Knowing and accepting yourself: that is empowerment.” “This is, in a lot of ways, is the first lyrically uplifting record we’ve made,” Megan added. “People can go through terrible things. People can weather immeasurable sorrow and hard times and yet we can still come out on the other side, pull ourselves together and thrive. This record reflects some of the joy and positivity that we ourselves feel and appreciate.” The tracklisting for ‘Self Made Man’ by Larkin Poe is: 1. Self Made Man 2. Holy Ghost Fire 3. Twinnie

Twinnie reschedules UK tour in light of government guidelines

Twinnie has become the latest artist forced into rescheduling their tour as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, with government guidelines forcing her hand. On March 16, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that people should avoid all mass gatherings and crowded places – including pubs, clubs, theatres and of course, music venues. As such, Twinnie has had little choice but to reschedule her upcoming tour, which was due to commence on March 17 in Glasgow, but has pledged to find dates in the diary as and when she can. “It’s with such a heavy heart after this afternoon’s announcement from the UK Government’s new guidelines to safety measures that I am going to have to reschedule my tour,” she said in a statement she posted on her social media. “I want to make sure first and foremost that everyone is safe and with this new information, I have to make this decision. “Stay tuned for the rescheduled dates that we’ll announce as soon as we can and visit your ticket providers for information. I’m so sorry guys, I’ll see you all soon.” The tour was pencilled in mind to support the upcoming release of Twinnie’s upcoming debut album ‘Hollywood Gypsy’, which is set to drop on April 17.

The Shires

The Shires set to secure first ever UK Number One album with 'Good Years'

The Shires are in pole position for their first ever UK Number One album, as their fourth record ‘Good Years’ is currently leading the way in the midweek charts. You can read our review of the record here. The duo – made up of Ben Earle and Crissie Rhodes – have been very successful in the UK Country charts, with all three of their previous albums reaching the top spot, but they are yet to claim a Number One in the all-genre chart, with ‘My Universe’ and ‘Accidentally on Purpose’ both peaking at Number Three. The duo will face stern competition from former One Direction member Niall Horan however, whose second solo album ‘Heartbreak Weather’ is hot on the heels of ‘Good Years’ in second place. Speaking about the news, the duo said in a statement that they are very thankful to everyone who has ordered the record and also expressed their regret at not being able to play at C2C over the weekend, following the festival’s postponement. “We are so grateful to every single person that has bought ‘Good Years’,” the duo said. “We set out to make a positive, uplifting record and we hope it brings some joy to people right now at this difficult time. “We were so sad not to be able to play C2C last weekend, but it’s great to see our community coming together this week for (fingers crossed) a UK Country #1.” The only other possible new rival for The Shires is UK indie rock band Circa Waves, whose latest album ‘Sad Happy’ is currently sitting in fourth in its first week of sales, while Lewis Capaldi remains at three with ‘Definitely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent’.
