‘The Hidden Lyrics’ event, at Tiny Rebel, Cardiff, on 31st May

In collaboration with Follow Your Arrow UK, we are so excited to be announcing our second ‘The Hidden Lyrics‘ event, at Tiny Rebel, Cardiff, on 31st May, featuring welsh artists and Buckle and Boots headliners, Aaron Goodvin and Jessie G. ‘The Hidden Lyrics’ event delves into the attention-to-detail, passion and artistic talent that goes into creating a song. Each of the featured songwriters will strip back their songs to the bare bones, sharing with the audience the story behind them and their songwriter process, before performing them acoustically. Each artist will perform three songs each at the in-the-round style event. About the artists Jessie G  is from the West Coast of America and comes from four generations of West Coast commercial fishing. She is currently an active-duty military wife within the Special Forces Green Beret community, and has been the only signed artist to Redneck Records under Grammy award winning artist, Gretchen Wilson. Jessie G is a seasoned performer who has played many of the biggest venues, stadiums, arenas, and festivals across the states. Jessie has shared the stage and toured with country stars including Kid Rock, Hank Williams Jr., Gretchen Wilson, Brothers Osborne, Brantley Gilbert, Ashley McBryde, Lynard Skynard, Big & Rich, and many more! Her new song ‘Lust’ is out now.   Matt Wynn grew up in Flint Hill, Missouri in the Midwest of the United States, a tiny town of 600 people. Matt enjoyed creative writing in school, but it was at church that laid the foundation for his love of singing and his faith that has guided him through and can be found in many of the songs he writes. A seasoned performer, he has opened for artists including Luke Combs, Maren Morris, Brothers Osborne, Sam Hunt and many more. Matt feeds off the energy of the crowd and enjoys connecting with his audience the most. He moved to Nashville in 2015 and his hit single ‘Dangerous’ is out now.   Connor Christian is the frontman and principal songwriter of the band The Southern Gothic. The son of an American serviceman and diplomat, Connor has travelled around the world from six months old, to places including Los Angeles, Singapore, South Korea and Belgium. Never stopping long enough anywhere to call it a hometown, he took pieces from every stop and it led him to find his calling in singing. He has performed 3000 shows since forming the band with drummer Shawn Thacker and a revolving cast of musicians in Atlanta. The bands second album ‘New Hometown’ debuted #1 on Billboard’s Heatseeker chart and #17 on their country albums chart. The same month, the first single from the record, “Sheets Down” reached #1 on CMT’s Pure Country 12-Pack Countdown. 2023 will debut their first full length album in nearly 10 years, “One More For the Road”. Their new single ‘Rich Folks’ is out now.   Aaron Goodvin is a multi-award winning, double platinum selling Canadian country artist. With a total of 78 million streams and two number one singles in Canada for ‘Boy Like Me’ and ‘You Are’, Aaron Goodvin continues to top the Canadian charts, having had 7 top ten singles. He is an 11 CCMA nominated songwriter, winning in 2018 Songwriter of the Year for ‘Lonely Drum’.   Caitlin Mae is an award winning Welsh singer/songwriter and acoustic guitarist whose vocal abilities and energy are reminiscent of a young Taylor Swift. When she was just 17 years old, Caitlin Mae performed with Country music superstar Carrie Underwood. Caitlin Mae continues to perform across the UK, and in the USA touring Nashville and Indiana.  Her latest single ‘Seasons Change’, follows the success of her last release, ‘Fiona’, which debuted at number 1 in the singer/songwriter iTunes Charts, and was also crowned an “A-List” song by the BBC Radio Wales for two weeks running.   Paterson is an up and coming Welsh singer and songwriter who describes her music as ‘quirky and country-influenced’. She is a BBC Radio Wales A-list artist and she has performed at a number of festivals across the UK and she sings in both English and Welsh  Her latest single ‘Hey Soul Sister’, a cover of the song by ‘Train’ is out now.   Lloyd Jerwood grew up in Wales and started writing songs from the age of 11. His music bridges the gap between dreamy euphoric pop and a quietly informed introspection typical of singer- songwriters. He has been supported by BBC Radio Wales and is a regular on the Welsh A List. Armed with a guitar and a monster pedalboard, Lloyd’s shows are as down to earth and fun as he is, a true crowd pleaser, his sets flow between upbeat pop to stripped back singer songwriter. This year Jerwood has released two singles ‘Out Loud!’ and ‘Smokescreen’.

Country/Americana singer-songwriter Mike Thomas set to release Diamonds July 21st

Nashville-based country/Americana singer-songwriter Mike Thomas is set to release his album, Diamonds, on July 21, 2023, via Electric 3 Records. An emerging artist steeped in tradition and drawing from a wide array of influences and experiences, Thomas and his music have been best described as “eclectic country with a vintage vibe.” Recorded at Tresland Studios in Franklin, TN, the album was produced by Tres Sasser (Will Hoge, Foxtrot & The Get Down, Cardboard Kids), engineered and mixed by Joe Costa (Ben Folds, Brad Paisley, Hank Williams Jr.), and mastered by Brian Lucey (Buddy Guy, Lucinda Williams, Ryan Bingham, Shania Twain) at Magic Garden Mastering. “This collection of songs is deeply personal for me, but I also believe this record will be very relatable for our audience,” says Thomas. “This record covers a lot of ground musically, from straightforward country to rock to bluegrass, but I think it maintains a continuity throughout that I have not yet achieved with prior releases. The band and our guest musicians really did some excellent work on this record, and Tres, Joe, and I have really learned how to work well together in the studio. I can’t wait to get this one out there and play a bunch of shows in support of it!” Thomas grew up listening to a wide array of artists such as John Prine, Bob Dylan, Merle Haggard, Bruce Springsteen, Otis Redding, Delbert McClinton, and others, but he admits he is inspired and influenced by all types of music, as long as the songs feel heartfelt and honest. One listen to Thomas’ music demonstrates the importance of authenticity in his art. Thomas’ raw vocals coupled with his genuine writing style give his songs a nostalgic feel that listeners cannot help but connect with. Mix that carefully crafted lyricism with real-life stories, and fans both old and new are sure to find that the music resonates on a deep level. For Diamonds, Thomas was joined by many of the same musicians who contributed to his previous releases, including Donald Bright on electric guitar, Mark Huhta on pedal steel, Dave Colella on drums and percussion, Michael Sharp on keys, Weston Woodford provided harmony vocals, and Tres Sasser played bass in addition to producing the record. Other guest musicians included Tania Elizabeth on fiddle and harmony vocals, and Micah Hulscher on keys. The title track, which was also the first single, is a poignant tribute to his father; it was released in June 2022. Thomas explained, “I wrote this song several years ago after my father lost his job of nearly 35 years. He temporarily lost his identity and his sense of purpose. It was difficult watching him go through this, but it was inspiring how he refocused himself and recalibrated his life during that period.” Several of the album’s tracks focus on similar topics. “Over the last couple of years many people have had their lives turned upside down by forces beyond their control,” Thomas says. “Many have lost jobs, careers, homes, family members, and more.” The song premiered at Amplify Music Magazine, who called it “[a] stunner of a tune… if this song is any indication, the album will be a fantastic listen.” A total of five singles have been or will be released before the album street date. The second single, “Breaking the Distance,” was released in July 2022. A track premiere at Glide Magazine earlier that week dubbed the song a “soaring Americana rocker… sure to appeal to fans of Jason Isbell as well as the more country-leaning work of Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty.” Following that, the third single, “Bricks, Boards and Stone,” was released in October 2022, and a premiere several days prior at Wide Open Country praised the song, writing, “Singer-songwriter Mike Thomas explores the true meaning of home – and the pain of leaving one you’ve built.” Single number four, “Room on the Dance Floor,” came out in April 2023, and Americana Highways found much to love about the track in its premiere earlier that week, calling the song “a fresh breath of country rock air.” The fifth single, “Tryin’ Ain’t Enough,” is set for release on June 23, 2023. Growing up in Knoxville, TN, Thomas’ musical journey has taken a unique path. He moved to Nashville in 2004 intent on pursuing a career as a songwriter but quickly grew discouraged and set music aside for an extended period. He remembers one meeting with an industry executive that was instrumental in his decision to ultimately “put his dreams on the shelf,” as he sings in the track, “Before We Say Goodnight,” from Diamonds. After floating an EP around town, he decided to take a hiatus from writing and performing after that pivotal meeting. Over the next several years, Thomas did not write or pursue music at all. He settled down, started a family, and had a full-time job before founding his own small business in 2013. His passion for music did not disappear, and he would frequently play guitar and sing for family and friends. Thomas’ chance to get back into music came in 2017, when he was contacted out of the blue by a production company/booking agency that handled bookings for several venues in the Nashville area. They had found some of his music online and thought he would be a great fit for some of their venues. “Aside from the occasional writer’s night or charity function, I had not played with a band or released any new music in over 10 years,” Thomas recalls. His longtime friend, Donald Bright, joined him for that first show, and, shortly thereafter, The Mike Thomas Band was formed. Since then, Thomas and the band have been building a following by playing clubs and festivals in and around the Nashville area and regionally. “That first gig reignited a fire in me,” Thomas says. “I’d forgotten how much I enjoyed playing live music in front of a crowd.” Around the same time, Thomas met Sasser, who convinced Thomas to

Alana Springsteen releases Chameleon

Columbia Records NY/Sony Music Nashville artist-songwriter Alana Springsteen exposes her deepest insecurities in “chameleon.” An infinitely relatable look at her tendency to change herself to fit in, the stark but spellbinding track is the latest release from TWENTY SOMETHING: Figuring It Out (available July 14) – the second installment of her three-part debut album TWENTY SOMETHING. Listen to “chameleon” and check out the visualizer. Like all of Springsteen’s forthcoming TWENTY SOMETHING, “chameleon” emerged from a period of intense and often-painful self-reflection for the 22-year-old Virginia Beach, VA, native – a process that’s provided “the beginnings of a blueprint to help me live life on my own terms,” as she puts it. Co-written by Springsteen, Sasha Alex Sloan, and King Henry (LANY, Morgan Wallen), the song takes its title from a nickname Springsteen’s mother bestowed upon her, due to her phenomenal ability to adapt to any social situation. But while Springsteen acknowledges that her changeability can sometimes be a superpower, “chameleon” shines a light on the darker side of hiding your true self from the world.“My debut album, TWENTY SOMETHING, came together through the work and self-reflection I’ve been doing over the past few years. Amid getting to know myself, I’ve spent time thinking about the role I’ve played in my failed relationships. What I realized is that I was looking everywhere but inward for the validation and love I thought I needed. When you give someone that much power over you, it’s very easy to become whoever they need you to be and to lose sight of who you truly are. That’s what ‘chameleon’ is about,” shares Springsteen. “I’ve always been really good at turning myself into whatever made me feel most validated in any given moment. After all, if I become a version of myself they’ll want, they won’t have a chance to reject the real me – what could be worse than that? That was a really hard truth to admit. Through writing ‘chameleon,’ I learned how to love myself in ways I’ve always looked to others to love me in the past. I can tell you the freedom that comes along with that is exhilarating. I’m so grateful to Sasha [Alex Sloan] and King Henry for digging deep with me. It takes real courage to get this brutally honest and I’m thankful they were willing to go there. And to Paul [DiGiovanni] for co-producing this one with me. It’s hard to make a track feel vulnerable and spicy at the same time, but I think we nailed it.” Built on an exquisitely raw performance from Springsteen, “chameleon” begins with a bit of all-too-real confession that sets the tone for the entire track: “I don’t drink but if you pour me a shot / I’ll throw it back faster than / You can say Mississippi.” As the slow-burning song unfolds, Springsteen opens up about her people-pleasing habits and struggle with authentic self-expression, threading her lyrics with so many brutally self-aware observations: “I’d rather lie than be lonely / And I hate to admit / That my defense mechanism / Is never really letting you know me.” Co-produced by Paul DiGiovanni (Luke Bryan, Mitchell Tenpenny) and Springsteen, “chameleon” sets that storytelling to a dreamlike backdrop of sprawling guitar tones and softly shimmering textures, magnifying the emotional power of her aching vocal work. But despite its heavy-hearted mood, “chameleon” ultimately inspires the one-of-a-kind catharsis that comes with feeling truly seen and understood – a rare and essential quality that defines so much of Springsteen’s music.Comprised of six soul-baring songs, TWENTY SOMETHING: Figuring It Out captures what Springsteen refers to as the “moments of realization that help us see ourselves, which in turn, helps us see the world.” Spotlighted off the collection is the recently released title track, an intimately detailed account of the nonstop emotional roller coaster of life in your 20s, co-written by Springsteen, Liz Rose, AJ Pruis, and Trannie Anderson. Since premiering last month, “twenty something” has been featured by Entertainment Tonight, ET Canada, and CMT, among others, with Holler praising it as “an anthem for those caught in the often confusing limbo between being a teenager and a fully-fledged adult” and noting that Springsteen is “establishing herself as one of the most exciting new artists to emerge out of Nashville’s contemporary, pop-infused sound.” Pre-save/pre-add TWENTY SOMETHING: Figuring It Out here.Co-produced by Springsteen (who also plays acoustic and electric guitar all throughout the album), TWENTY SOMETHING is a landmark project cementing her status as one of the most vital new voices in Country music. Springsteen introduced the album earlier this year with its first installment, TWENTY SOMETHING: Messing It Up – an irresistibly resonant document of all the mistakes and misadventures of her early adulthood. Released in March, Messing It Up includes such eclectic tracks as “you don’t deserve a country song” (hailed by Billboard as having “all the bite”), “shoulder to cry on” (a song that “perfectly exhibits Springsteen’s ability to craft artful twists into her vulnerable songwriting,” according to Holler), and “goodbye looks good on you (feat. Mitchell Tenpenny)” (American Songwriter’s “Pick of the Day” and spotted across high-profile roundups for E! News, CMT, and more).Next set to appear at CMA Fest 2023, fans can also catch Springsteen on the road this summer with Luke Bryan. Erin Kinsey’s Highly Anticipated Sophomore EP “Bet My Heart” Is Out Today!

Nashville, TN– RECORDS Nashville artist and Texas native Erin Kinsey has released her highly anticipated EP Bet My Heart, available everywhere today. The new project features songs all written by Kinsey, including the title track, and fan favorites “Always Never,” “Vegas” and “Boys In Boots.”    After a whirlwind week around the ACM Awards in her home state of Texas, where she performed at the ACM Country Kickoff, hit the red carpet at the awards show, appeared on Good Morning Texas and taped an episode of Texas Today (airing 5/25), Erin stopped by the Today In Nashville this afternoon to talk about her new music.  Matching youthful effervescence to beyond-her-years wisdom and a heartening, blue-sky country sound, Bet My Heart finds Kinsey taking the next steps of her personal journey – and doing so right alongside her fans. Getting more vulnerable with time, she’s spent the last year writing out her life in real time, exploring ups and downs and coming away with an empowering truth. Life rarely turns out the way we expect, Kinsey explains, but with a shoulder to lean on, it can be a beautiful ride. “The last EP was honest, they were all my stories, but I definitely left out a lot,” she says. “I’m not leaving out anything on this one.” Bet My Heart follows her critically-acclaimed debut EP 40 East, which she released last year, just before making her Grand Ole Opry debut.  “This project is one that really wraps up so many feelings I’ve had since my first EP – the good, the great, and the difficult,” confides Kinsey. “’40 East’ features so many fun songs that I’m still very proud of, but in hindsight, it’s felt like maybe I left some things out. ‘Bet My Heart’ shows all of my angles, and in such an honest way, that I wasn’t able to lean in half way. Even though it might have saved me from some heart break along the way, there’s no reward like the one when betting it all actually works out!”   Erin may be a country music newcomer, but she’s been hard at work since she was 11 years old. Now 22, she is the epitome of a 10-year overnight success who has established herself as a Nashville singer-songwriter with a bright future ahead of her. Having moved from Texas to Tennessee the morning after her high school graduation, Kinsey quickly immersed herself in country music, and in return she was embraced by music insiders who’ve helped her reach her larger-than-life goals.   Erin consistently receives close to ten million views when she posts an original song on TikTok, where she’s amassed nearly a quarter million active followers. Erin has accumulated over 70 million streams across her catalog to date.

Austin Jenckes talks ahead of Buckle and Boots

One of the artists I am most excited about seeing at Buckle and Boots is Austin Jenckes. We spoke to Jenckes to get to know him a little better before his appearance at the festival and what he’s most looking forward to. When did you first know that you wanted to be a musician? I knew that I wanted to be a musician the first time I saw my dad perform in front of a small crowd. I was probably nine years old. Seeing the way music brought smiles to people’s faces at a young age had an effect on me and I still feel it everytime I get to perform. What music did your family play to you growing up and what are you choosing to listen to now? My dad llistened to a lot of classic rock (Tom Petty, Eagles, Steve Miller). I also listened to a lot of singer songwriters with my mom (Shawn Mullins, Sarah McLachlan). All I have been listening to lately is Sam Fender. I actually got to go see him in Berlin when I was over last year and it was life changing! Can you tell me about your experience on The Voice and how it shaped your career? It was like being at Disneyland for two years. The lead up to the show was nerve racking. Once I got on the show it was just a big party and when I was off the show it gave me the opportunity to play music for a ton of people. I am grateful for those experiences and I still think it is crazy that I got to have them. Can you tell me the story behind your song ‘River Jordan’? River Jordan came from a picture that my friend Ryan Beaver found of Johnny Cash getting baptized. I grew up playing music in church and I got baptized when I was seven years old in a river in washington state. As I got older I stopped going to church for various reasons and I still don’t go but I think about what it felt like to worship and believe wholeheartedly as a kid and this song made me feel like someone understood my struggles with religion and spirituality. And even though I never got to meet Johnny Cash it makes think that maybe he understood too. How excited are you to play Buckle and Boots? On a scale of 1-10 probably a 13. I can’t wait to see some familiar faces and rock out with the band. Seems like there will be some people who are ready for an experience and that gets me fired up. A silly question, what’s the strangest thing you’ve ever written a song about? I think the strangest song would have to be a pest control commercial I did for US PEST. It’s called Eagle Steve and hopefully you can’t find it on youtube cuz it’s pretty silly. One of the lines is “bugs for breakfast, mice for lunch” What’s next for you? I am just trying to write better songs.. I have written a lot over the last couple years but still haven’t found the thing that I am looking for. I have a run with Everette and Stephen Wilson Jr. in Germany leading up to the Buckle and Boots that I am floored about and then I am heading back to Seattle for some hometown shows. This summer my goal is to find whatever it is I am looking for and get to work on a new project and hopefully be able to share some new music for you when I come over next year!
