Alison Krauss & Union Station Return With ‘Arcadia’ on 28 March

Country and bluegrass fans rejoice – Alison Krauss & Union Station are back with their first album in 14 years. Titled ‘Arcadia’, the highly anticipated release lands on 28 March is entirely self-produced by the band. Featuring ten tracks that weave timeless storytelling with contemporary reflections, ‘Arcadia’ serves as a powerful reminder of why Krauss and her band remain among the most revered names in country and bluegrass music. Despite a prolonged period of individual successes – spanning solo projects, collaborations with industry legends, and a staggering combined total of over 70 Grammy Awards – the group never lost sight of their roots. Over the years, they have carefully selected songs that would eventually reunite them in the studio, leading to the creation of ‘Arcadia’. The album largely features songs penned by modern songwriting masters such as Robert Lee Castleman, Viktor Krauss, Bob Lucas, JD McPherson and Sarah Siskind. However, it was one particular track that sparked the band’s reunion. ‘Usually, I find something that’s a first song, and then things fall into place,’ Krauss shares. ‘That song was ‘Looks Like The End Of The Road.’ Jeremy Lister wrote it, and it just felt so alive – and as always, I could hear the guys already playing it.’ This lead single, which also serves as the album’s opening track, is available now for streaming and pre-order. Following the immense success of their 2011 album ‘Paper Airplane’, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Country, Bluegrass and Folk Charts, ‘Arcadia’ expands upon the signature sound that has earned Alison Krauss & Union Station worldwide acclaim. The album was recorded in Nashville and introduces a new member to the group – celebrated vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Russell Moore. Known as the frontman of the award-winning bluegrass band IIIrd Tyme Out, Moore joins Alison Krauss (fiddle, lead vocals), Jerry Douglas (Dobro, lap steel, vocals), Ron Block (banjo, guitar, vocals) and Barry Bales (bass, vocals) to form a formidable lineup. Speaking about the album’s themes, Krauss reflects, ‘The stories of the past are told in this music. It’s that whole idea of “in the good old days when times were bad.” There’s so much bravery and valor and loyalty and dreaming, of family and themes of human existence that were told in a certain way when our grandparents were alive. Someone asked me, “How do you sing these tragic tunes?” I have to. It’s a calling. I feel privileged to be a messenger of somebody else’s story. And I want to hear what happened.’ The release of ‘Arcadia’ also marks a reunion with Rounder Records founders Ken Irwin, Marian Leighton Levy, Bill Nowlin and John Virant, who originally signed Krauss when she was just 14 years old. Now at the helm of Down The Road Records, their ongoing collaboration is a testament to a creative partnership that has stood the test of time. To coincide with the album’s launch, Alison Krauss & Union Station will embark on the ‘Arcadia 2025 Tour’, their first in over a decade. Spanning 75 dates across North America and featuring Jerry Douglas, the tour has already seen an overwhelming demand, with most dates selling out almost immediately. For UK fans, while there are no official UK tour dates yet, the return of Alison Krauss & Union Station is a reason for celebration. With ‘Arcadia’ set to captivate listeners once more, the hope remains that the band will bring their stunning new music across the Atlantic in the near future.   To read more exclusive articles and latest news, see our last issue here. Florence Sommerville Unveils New Single ‘(I’ll Be Your) Best Broken Heart’

Rising UK country starlet Florence Sommerville has kicked off 2025 in style with the release of her latest single, ‘(I’ll Be Your) Best Broken Heart,’ out now. With the charm and ease of a seasoned Nashville performer, this track offers an exciting glimpse into the promising future of the 20-year-old Essex-born singer-songwriter, as she gears up to release her debut album later this year. Hailing from the quaint village of Orsett, Florence has immersed herself in modern country music from a young age. Picking up the guitar at just eight years old and writing songs by the time she was 12, her dedication to the craft has been unwavering. Her teenage years were spent honing her skills at open mic nights, culminating in a significant milestone at 14 when she reached the final of the Open Mic UK competition at London’s O2 Indigo Arena. Since then, Florence has graced the stages of major festivals such as Latitude, Moseley Folk and Arts Festival, Maverick Festival, and AMA Music Week in Nashville, steadily building her reputation in the country music scene. Florence’s latest single is a testament to her growth and ambition. ‘(I’ll Be Your) Best Broken Heart’ came to life following her second trip to Nashville, where she collaborated with esteemed songwriters Shantell Ogden and Corey Lee Barker. Reflecting on the experience, Florence shared: “I have to admit, I was quite nervous going into the session, as I had never written with more than one other person before and didn’t know how it would go. I had no reason to worry, as although Shantell and Corey write together fairly often, they made me feel very much at home and comfortable. Once we had started, the song just seemed to flow out of us all, and after only a couple of hours, we had an acoustic worktape of the track that doesn’t seem to have changed too much through all of the different stages of production.” The track’s moody guitar and atmospheric pedal steel create a rich and layered sound that perfectly complements Florence’s emotive vocals. It’s a fully-fledged country ballad that highlights her ability to craft compelling stories through music. Florence made her mark on the UK country scene with her self-penned debut single, ‘On My Way,’ released in October 2023. The track received widespread radio play across the UK and beyond, introducing audiences to her distinctive sound and heartfelt songwriting. This success led to her signing with renowned music manager Alan Cackett, who facilitated writing sessions with top Nashville songwriters, including Gary Burr, Sally Barris, and Jan Buckingham. Beyond the recording studio, Florence has taken her music to iconic venues both in the UK and across the pond. In Nashville, she has performed at notable spots such as the Commodore Grille, Hutton Hotel, Love & Exit, and Tennessee Brew Works. Back in Britain, she has opened for major artists like Diana Jones, Tom Robinson, Annie Keating, Hannah Aldridge, Dan Owen, and The Hanging Stars, even selling out her debut headline gig at London’s Camden Chapel in October 2024. Florence Sommerville’s music is defined by a raw, rootsy quality that sets her apart. She brings an authentic touch to her songs, steering clear of the typical country star mould to present something genuinely heartfelt and relatable. With her assured stage presence and crystalline vocals, Florence continues to win over audiences and critics alike. With ‘(I’ll Be Your) Best Broken Heart’ now available and a debut album on the horizon, 2025 is shaping up to be a breakthrough year for Florence Sommerville. Country music fans in the UK and beyond should keep an eye on this rising star.   To read more exclusive articles and latest news, see our last issue here. Miranda Lambert, Norman’s Guitars Aid Wildfire-Affected Animals

The most-awarded artist in Academy of Country Music history and one of country music’s most passionate animal advocates, Miranda Lambert, has partnered with legendary guitar dealer Norm Harris of Norman’s Rare Guitars to help Los Angeles area animal shelters with wildfire recovery. Harris is as widely known for his compassion and generosity as he is for his knowledge of guitars, which is well-attested to in the Netflix documentary “Norman’s Rare Guitars.” He and a close friend have each donated a one-of-a-kind Gibson R9 1959 Les Paul Reissue Custom Shop Murphy Lab guitar for auction to benefit animals. “The fires have displaced so many people and animals, and I wanted to do something that would immediately help the overcrowded animal shelters,” shared Harris. “When my friend said he wanted to buy one of these guitars – but that he didn’t want the guitar – he wanted to auction it and have the funds go support animals, I jumped right in and said I’d donate one, too. These are two incredibly special guitars, each with a slightly different finish that I hand-selected. The guitars have a value of over $8,000 each, but this is for charity, so I hope people will be generous.” “Although I haven’t met Norm, I’ve heard about him and his guitar store for years and the next time I’m in L.A., it will be my first stop,” said Lambert. “There’s nothing better than finding another like-minded music and mutt-loving person and I’m really honored that he chose to partner with MuttNation.”   To read more exclusive articles and latest news, see our last issue here. Jessica Lynn All I Own website

Jessica Lynn channels cowgirl gospel in video for ’16 Miles’

Brooklyn-born country artist and songwriter Jessica Lynn releases her deeply personal 10-track album, ‘All I Own’, today. Crafted through years of relentless dedication and shaped by her professional challenges and recent health battles, the project is a testament to her resilience and artistry. With the project’s release, she also delivers the official music video for the album’s standout track, ’16 Miles’ directed and filmed by 15-time Emmy Award-winning video production company FireRock Productions. Written during a lonely tour stop on a ranch surrounded by 16 miles of nothing, she refers to the track as a “musician’s prayer,” and uses the metaphor of her surroundings to tell a story of holding on to faith in music even at the loneliest moments. “Sometimes, all you see is nothing — no light at the end of the tunnel, no other road,” Jessica admits. “But if you keep moving forward, you’ll find a way.” Despite her New York roots, Jessica Lynn’s deep connection to country music shines through her emotional storytelling and intricate lyrics. Her passion for blending music and philanthropy began early, with performances at children’s hospitals and nursing homes. Jessica’s career took off with PBS concert specials and international tours, sharing stages with icons like Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, and Loretta Lynn. Known for her powerful vocals and multi-instrumental talents, she has earned global recognition and a loyal fan base. In 2020, Jessica’s philanthropic efforts led to a role with the U.S. Department of State’s American Voices program. As a consultant and member of American Music Abroad, she traveled worldwide as a cultural ambassador. She also created and taught the course “Tips & Tricks for The Independent Musician,” helping young artists globally access opportunities in the industry. She recently returned from Asia and is set to teach in Nigeria next. Besides her educational outreach, she has continued using her vocal chops to support organizations like Armed Forces Entertainment and Toys for Tots, the latter of which she partners with for her annual Christmas tour: “A Very Merry Classic Christmas.” The show features the talents of local musicians and dancers of the cities she stops in, truly living and breathing her philosophy of providing chances for all young musicians and artists. On November 22, she released a 4-song live EP of tracks from the show, with all proceeds from the project going to further support Toys for Tots. Watch the complete live performance from 2024’s “A Very Merry Classic Christmas” tour here. Jessica continues to create music that uplifts and connects, her unwavering determination reflected in every song. From overcoming vocal challenges to crafting an album that captures the highs and lows of her journey, All I Own is more than just music — it’s a testament to giving everything to your passion, no matter the cost.   To read more exclusive articles and latest news, see our last issue here. For Kenny Chesney, known for exhaustive live shows that are long on the euphoria that comes from embracing the world and living life completely, it was only a matter of time until he found a new dimension. That moment is 2025, when the songwriter/superstar brings his full-tilt brand of American music to Sphere in Las Vegas. “I’m always looking for ways to deepen the way No Shoes Nation experiences this music,” Chesney says of his decision to make 2025’s tour a trip to the next-level venue. “Over the years, they have shown me through their own response to these songs how passionate they are about what they mean, how these songs are part of their lives. When people give you that much heart, I want to give them even more. “When we started talking about all of the possibilities playing Sphere offered, I was all in. Just the idea of 4D technology and the impossibly dialed in sound raises the experience for No Shoes Nation, literally immersing them in music, visuals, sound and being together. To me, this is going to be a whole new way of rocking the fans, and I can’t wait.” The only country artist to be in Billboard’s Top 10 Touring Acts of the Last 25 Years for the last 15 years, Chesney joins the select cultural icons U2, Dead & Company, Eagles, Phish and Afterlife Presents Anyma to headline the 17,600-seat spherical venue that has redefined the live entertainment experience and employs next-generation technologies. They will also heighten the sensation of the music as those speakers exist behind the 16K x 16K resolution wraparound screen, the world’s highest-resolution LED display. So powerful was the technology that Chesney said “yes,” without ever attending a concert. He explains, “When we started talking, I flew to Vegas with my key tour team. We stood on the floor as they ran the film of U2’s show and we were completely consumed. We could see the band, but it was so much more than that. It almost took what they were doing and multiplied it by another dimension. “Knowing how much intensity our shows generate, my mind started thinking about all the things we could do. Once you see how the show wraps all the way around you, the dreaming begins.” Kept under wraps for nearly a year, Chesney and his team, along with experts from Sphere Studios’ tech and creative teams, have been working to create what will be a whole new experience in the way his music is experienced. Ringo Starr invited to make Grand Ole Opry debut on 21st February

Multi-Grammy Award winner Ringo Starr was invited to make his debut on the Grand Ole Opry last night during the first of his two-night sold-out headlining shows at the famed Ryman Auditorium in support of his new country album, ‘Look Up’. The Academy Award winner and two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee was surprised onstage with the invitation by his friend and Opry member Emmylou Harris. Starr will make his Opry debut on February 21 at the Grand Ole Opry House as part of the Opry’s ongoing 100th Anniversary celebration. Harris surprised Starr onstage to welcome him to Nashville and asked if he would come back again next month to play the Grand Ole Opry for the first time. When Harris asked, Starr pretended to think about it and, with his trademark wit, teasingly replied, “When is that, July?” Harris answered, “February,” to which he enthusiastically replied, “I’d love to. It’s an honor and a pleasure. Thank you.” “What an honor that after all the extraordinary music he has made and all the incredible history he’s been a part of, Ringo Starr will be making his Opry debut during this, the Opry’s milestone 100th year,” said Opry Executive Producer Dan Rogers. “It’s going to be a night like no other.” Starr will be back at the Ryman Auditorium tonight performing songs from his new album. Starr’s lifelong love of country music has been apparent and celebrated throughout his illustrious career. He performed and wrote numerous country and country-tinged songs throughout his years with The Beatles (i.e. “Act Naturally,” “What Goes On,” “Don’t Pass Me By”) as well as with the earlier Rory Storm and The Hurricanes, and recorded a country album, ‘Beaucoups of Blues’, in 1970 as his second solo album. His love of Country and the Blues led him to try and emigrate from London to Texas while still a teen, after reading that Lightnin’ Hopkins lived in Houston. The artist’s new album comes after a chance meeting with T Bone Burnett at an event in Los Angeles in 2022 (the two had first met in the 1970s), where Starr asked Burnett to write a song for an EP he was recording. Taking the task to heart, Burnett returned with nine songs, all in a country vein, which happily put Starr on a path to record ‘Look Up’.   To read more exclusive articles and latest news, see our last issue here.
