The Kentucky Headhunters

Happy Holidays! ‘Let’s All Get Together and Fight’

Southern blues-rock royalty, The Kentucky Headhunters release an animated lyric video for their tongue-in-cheek song, ‘Let’s All Get Together and Fight’. The song’s ideal for a wry, tongue-in-cheek holiday release when so many folk and families will be gathering to celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and all other family gatherings. Whilst such occasions are often full of fine fare and fellowship, many are often also full of friction, and the longstanding traditions of gathering, bickering, bitching, fighting, and arguing over all and sundry. The Kentucky Headhunters celebrate this in ‘Let’s All Get Together and Fight’. The song’s roots lies in band member Richard Young’s very own holiday family gatherings, which after the restrictions imposed on contact, gathering and partying because of COVID, he appreciates more and more. “Every year around this time, all families come together,” Young recently told Everything Nash, “and if your family is anything like ours, there is always one or two folks that get their feelings hurt, or just plain old disrupt for attention. “I must admit, I have snuck many half-cakes in the trash can, to keep one of our family members from getting their feelings hurt, because she was not a county fair Blue Ribbon cook. Kind of like Aunt Bea’s homemade pickles on Andy Griffith! “Like everyone else, we all hunkered down at home in 2020, and didn’t have our normal family gatherings,” Richard reflects. “As my wife, Cindy, made a crockpot of deer and vegetables, cornbread, and her award-winning broccoli casserole for Thanksgiving, it made me realize even more than ever how special family is. Hindsight is 2020, so love each other, and cherish the moments, even if we all get together and fight!”

Exclusive: Tim Prottey-Jones and Kezia Gill record a reimagined version of ‘Cotton Eye Joe’ out January 14th

Tim Prottey-Jones teams up with fellow UK country star Kezia Gill for a reimagined version of the 90’s hit ‘Cotton Eye Joe’, due out January 14th. Summer 2021 – As the campaign for his most recent original music came to a close, Tim hit upon the notion of reworking some nostalgic 90’s one-hit-wonders & giving them a new lease of life as dark Americana tracks. Each would be a duet with a vocalist he admired and ‘Cotton Eye Joe’ was no different. Take everything you thought you knew about this track, made famous by Rednex, and then really take on board the already brooding lyrics that reference a sinister character and the notion of being drunk on moonshine, and you’ve got the perfect gothic tale. Having known each other on the UK country circuit, BCMA award winners Tim and Kezia first collaborated during the very first lockdown in 2020 as part of a remotely recorded series of tracks that celebrated the best UK country voices and musicians. From that moment, Tim knew he wanted to record with Kezia again & he set about producing a version of the track that would rekindle the magic of where the Civil Wars left off whilst being true to the origins of the song. Emilia Quinn

Exclusive: Emilia Quinn shares video for ‘Worse Than Whiskey’

Emilia Quinn shows the world that independent artists can create beautiful art without a ‘big label’ budget in new music video for ‘Worse Than Whiskey’. The video, which was directed, shot and edited by Quinn and her partner Tammy (Tamography) at the pair’s house was released exclusively on Maverick today. Speaking of the video Quinn said, “My decision to shoot with my other half comes back to the EP being so personal. It felt right to shoot something so personal with someone who fully understands me and understands the song. Plus I’ve always had a love for DIY projects and a strong belief that if you give yourself the chance and take a leap, everyone is capable of creating great things!” She continued, “The bath is the same bath from the cover art of the EP itself and the place where I came up with a fair few lyrics featured in Medicate.” “We’re both so proud of how the video turned out, it actually came out even better than I imagined, and we’re so excited to share it with the world!” Both the song and the video showcase the talent of these two girls and represent the fire and determination nestled within the UK country scene. Audra McLaughlin’s latest single ‘Headed For The Fall’ which has been garnering attention on BBC Radio, comes out tomorrow! Ahead of it’s release she shared an acoustic rendition of it with us, here at Maverick. ‘Headed For The Fall’ showcases her phenomenal vocal range and gives us a real taste of the edgier side of this Queen of Country Soul. With an infectious chorus and the magical blend of guitars, you’ll want to enjoy listening to this song with the volume cranked up! Ramin Karimloo

Ramin Karimloo to play show with his Broadgrass Band next week!

West End and Broadway star and musical innovator Ramin Karimloo will bring his unique band, The Broadgrass Band to London for a very special one-off show at London’s Eventim Apollo on Wednesday, 15th December. Billed as ‘An Evening with Ramin Karimloo & The Broadgrass Band’, the Iranian-born Canadian singer and performer will deliver his reinterpretations of musical theatre hits, folk favourites and some of Ramin’s original songs all under the Broadgrass style he has made his own – breathing some bluegrass into Broadway and bringing some drama into Bluegrass. Talking of the show Karimloo said, “I can’t wait to return to London to perform these songs with The Broadgrass Band at Hammersmith’s legendary Eventim Apollo this December. We’ll be pulling out all the hits for what I promise to be a celebratory evening that’s been a long time coming.” Known around the world as one of the most formidable talents in musical theatre, Karimloo’s portrayal of leading roles such as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables on Broadway (2014 Tony Award nominee) and London’s West End, and the Phantom in Phantom of The Opera in London, served to highlight why he is a musical force unlike any other. Karimloo immortalised the role in the 25th Anniversary Concert of Phantom of The Opera at The Royal Albert Hall, and originated the leading role in Love Never Dies, the sequel to Phantom of the Opera, for which he received an Olivier Award nomination. In addition, he played the role of Enjolras in the 25th Anniversary of Les Miserables at the O2 Arena in London. Karimloo was then introduced to a new audience when he joined the main cast of the BBC drama series Holby City in 2019, playing consultant cardiothoracic surgeon Kian Madani. Karimloo’s style of music is both innovating and exciting as he merges the two genres together seamlessly. The show at the Eventim is bound to be a spectacle not to be missed! The Kentucky Headhunters

The Kentucky Headhunters to make Grand Ole Opry debut tonight!

During all of their years as entertainers, GRAMMY Award-winning southern rock, blues and country group The Kentucky Headhunters have never performed on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry. That all changes on Saturday, Dec. 4 when the boys from the Bluegrass State walk into the Opry’s hallowed wooden circle for the very first time. “I must say The Kentucky Headhunters had to take a deep breath, twice, when our USA publicist Don Murry Grubbs called to say we had been asked to be on the Grand Ole Opry stage for the first time,” says Headhunters guitarist and vocalist Richard Young. In the early ’90s when the Headhunters released their debut album, Pickin’ on Nashville, Bill Monroe approached Roy Acuff about having the group perform on the Opry stage. “Mr. Acuff said, ‘I think they are probably good boys and would do a fine job, but let’s get ’em a haircut first,” reminisces Young. “Needless to say, it never happened. We are so looking forward to our first appearance on the Opry stage in 30 years. We still got our hair, too. Well, most of it!” The Opry can be heard at opry.com and wsmonline.com, SiriusXM Satellite Radio (Willie’s Roadhouse), and its flagship home, 650 AM-WSM. Last month, the Headhunters released their first album of all-new material in half a decade. The twelve-track compilation, That’s A Fact Jack!, is available now via Practice House Records (distributed by BFD). The Nashvillains release video for ‘Christmas In A Bottle’

Signed to Fate Entertainment, the newly formed country-rock infused band, Nashvillains, is made up of veteran musicians and writers Troy Johnson, Brett Boyett and Scott Lindsey. Nashvillains’ inception stemmed from the seasoned veterans and musicians shared love of country music and rock and roll. Each member has been successful in their own right before coming together to record their debut full-length studio album, due out in 2022. Collectively, they have written and produced music for feature films, television shows and major artists like The Chicks, Keith Urban, Cassadee Pope, James Taylor, Lauren Alaina, among many more. Band members Brett Boyett and Scott Lindsey first met in a writing session where they shared a commonality on a creative vision; the country music spectrum was in dire need of a rock meets outlaw country presence that flirts with sonic experimentation. Having been familiar with Troy Johnson through the songwriting community, Boyett pinned Troy Johnson and his gritty vocals as a potential third member when he learned that Lindsey shared his publishing company with the sought-after writer; the rest was history. ‘Christmas In A Bottle’ is more than a Christmas song, Nashvillains realise that around the holiday season there are a lot of people who are having a hard time making it through amongst the cheer. With the upcoming music video, they want to raise awareness and be a beacon of hope for those struggling during the holiday season by writing a song that those experiencing loneliness during the holidays could relate to and know that they are not alone.
