The Wandering Hearts

The Wandering Hearts postpone April tour until further notice

The Wandering Hearts have announced that they will be postponing their upcoming April UK tour until further notice following the COVID-19 pandemic. The trio were set to embark on a 13-date tour across the UK commencing in the middle of April, but government measures – which have forced many other artists to cancel/postpone their touring commitments as well – have taken their toll. Taking to their social media, the group – made up of Chess Whiffin, AJ Dean and Tara Wilcox – expressed their dismay that they had to pull the plug on their tour, but stressed that they only did so on the basis that those attending would be safer as a result of it. “We are gutted to have to do this but safety first,” the band said in a statement on social media. “We are postponing our April tour to a later date which our team is fiercely working on now. We really hoped it wouldn’t come to this but we can’t put anyone at risk. “We love you guys & we promise to get back on the road as soon as we are able. All ticket holders will be emailed information regarding ticket refunds. If you instead wish to keep hold of your tickets, we will notify you as soon as the new dates are in place. Stay safe and make the most of your time.” The Wandering Hearts have been on a tremendous rise over the last few years and their second album is expected to drop at some point in 2020.

Kacey Musgraves

Kacey Musgraves set at Glastonbury on hold after festival postpones

Kacey Musgraves will have to wait an additional year to perform at Glastonbury once more, as the festival has announced that it will be postponing until 2021. The festival announced in a statement that due to recent government measures and amidst all the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, they cannot go ahead as planned and instead will be making 2020 a fallow year. “We are so sorry to announce this, but Glastonbury 2020 will have to be cancelled and this will be an enforced fallow year for the festival,” festival organisers Michael and Emily Eavis said in a statement. “Clearly this was not a course of action we hoped to take for our 50th anniversary event, but following the new government measures announced this week – and in times of such unprecedented uncertainty – this is now our only viable option. “We would like to send our sincere apologies to the 135,000 people who have already paid a deposit for a Glastonbury 2020 ticket.” Ticket holders can rest easy though – if you already have a ticket, it is still valid for the rescheduled dates next year. Anyone who would still  like a refund can apply to do so before September. Glastonbury 2020 was set to be headlined by Kendrick Lemar, Paul McCartney and Taylor Swift, with it being fully expected that Musgraves would be on the Pyramid Stage. It was also presumed that Kacey Musgraves would be using Glastonbury as an anchor for a UK tour, so whether that comes to fruition or not now remains to be seen.

Larkin Poe

Larkin Poe to release new album 'Self Made Man' on May 1

Grammy nominated sister duo Larkin Poe have revealed that their fifth studio album ‘Self Made Man’ will be released on May 1. You can pre-order the album here. The duo, made up of Atlanta born but Nashville based Rebecca and Megan Lovell, have made huge strides in recent years as a duo, with the pair taking their brand of American roots rock all round the world. Speaking about the record, the sisters said that it is an upbeat album that reflects on the previous 10 years that they have shared as a duo and that it is intended to highlight some of the better times. “Life is all about balance,” Rebecca said. “Sometimes it’s sweet, sometimes it’s sour. With She’s A Self Made Man, I wanted to write a song about the up-and-down ride that Megan and I have been on for the past 10 years of building Larkin Poe. It’s hard to know who you are and it can take time to figure out what your purpose is, but I feel thankful that in recent years, my own feelings have started to click and make sense. Knowing and accepting yourself: that is empowerment.” “This is, in a lot of ways, is the first lyrically uplifting record we’ve made,” Megan added. “People can go through terrible things. People can weather immeasurable sorrow and hard times and yet we can still come out on the other side, pull ourselves together and thrive. This record reflects some of the joy and positivity that we ourselves feel and appreciate.” The tracklisting for ‘Self Made Man’ by Larkin Poe is: 1. Self Made Man 2. Holy Ghost Fire 3. Keep Diggin’ 4. Back Down South (ft. Tyler Bryant) 5. Tears of Blue to Gold 6. God Moves on the Water 7. Every Bird That Flies 8. Scorpion 9. Ex-Con 10. Easy Street

Twinnie

Twinnie reschedules UK tour in light of government guidelines

Twinnie has become the latest artist forced into rescheduling their tour as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, with government guidelines forcing her hand. On March 16, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that people should avoid all mass gatherings and crowded places – including pubs, clubs, theatres and of course, music venues. As such, Twinnie has had little choice but to reschedule her upcoming tour, which was due to commence on March 17 in Glasgow, but has pledged to find dates in the diary as and when she can. “It’s with such a heavy heart after this afternoon’s announcement from the UK Government’s new guidelines to safety measures that I am going to have to reschedule my tour,” she said in a statement she posted on her social media. “I want to make sure first and foremost that everyone is safe and with this new information, I have to make this decision. “Stay tuned for the rescheduled dates that we’ll announce as soon as we can and visit your ticket providers for information. I’m so sorry guys, I’ll see you all soon.” The tour was pencilled in mind to support the upcoming release of Twinnie’s upcoming debut album ‘Hollywood Gypsy’, which is set to drop on April 17.

The Shires

The Shires set to secure first ever UK Number One album with 'Good Years'

The Shires are in pole position for their first ever UK Number One album, as their fourth record ‘Good Years’ is currently leading the way in the midweek charts. You can read our review of the record here. The duo – made up of Ben Earle and Crissie Rhodes – have been very successful in the UK Country charts, with all three of their previous albums reaching the top spot, but they are yet to claim a Number One in the all-genre chart, with ‘My Universe’ and ‘Accidentally on Purpose’ both peaking at Number Three. The duo will face stern competition from former One Direction member Niall Horan however, whose second solo album ‘Heartbreak Weather’ is hot on the heels of ‘Good Years’ in second place. Speaking about the news, the duo said in a statement that they are very thankful to everyone who has ordered the record and also expressed their regret at not being able to play at C2C over the weekend, following the festival’s postponement. “We are so grateful to every single person that has bought ‘Good Years’,” the duo said. “We set out to make a positive, uplifting record and we hope it brings some joy to people right now at this difficult time. “We were so sad not to be able to play C2C last weekend, but it’s great to see our community coming together this week for (fingers crossed) a UK Country #1.” The only other possible new rival for The Shires is UK indie rock band Circa Waves, whose latest album ‘Sad Happy’ is currently sitting in fourth in its first week of sales, while Lewis Capaldi remains at three with ‘Definitely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent’.

Kelsea Ballerini

Album Review: 'kelsea' by Kelsea Ballerini

US artist Kelsea Ballerini will release her third studio album ‘kelsea’ on March 20 and it is her open – and arguably best – record to date Kelsea Ballerini kelsea Black River Entertainment ***** Maturity, honesty and musical evolution in abundance – this is a winner  It’s crazy to think how much Kelsea Ballerini has achieved in such a short space of time. At the age of 26, she’s a member of the Grand Ole Opry, had two of her albums become Gold certified, in a position where she can go on a headline tour in some of America’s biggest venues and is widely seen as someone who could dominate within the genre for decades to come. She’s also now on her third record with ‘kelsea’ and this could well be the record that cements further Ballerini’s credentials within the genre, as what she has conjured up is nothing short of exemplary. What is a key running theme is vulnerability and honesty – namely love me like a girl, lead single homecoming queen? and album opener overshare – with Ballerini using this album to make a point that’s ok to not be ok and that it’s also more than fine to speak out about these feelings rather than bottle them up. This ties into something Ballerini said in the build-up to the album being released, which was that she wanted to make a point that she was still very much a country music artist and not a popstar – tracks like hole in the bottle and (especially) half of my hometown in particular will shut down naysayers, with both tracks not only set to please purists and casual fans in equal measure, but they also carry so much more meaning than perhaps a generic pop song does. There are more country pop focussed songs, of course – notably club and needy – but that’s hardly a bad thing and both are really good tracks. The songwriting on this record is on another level, while Ballerini’s vocals sound better here than ever before – which is no mean feat, given the outrageous levels of musical ability and talent she has at her disposal. Speaking for us back for our November/December issue, Ballerini told us that she wasn’t confident of her chances at the CMA Awards as it was “not my year yet” – with this album though, she might be feeling a bit more confident when the inevitable nominations come her way. The Shires

Album Review: 'Good Years' by The Shires

On March 13, The Shires released their fourth studio album in the shape of ‘Good Years’, which has serious potential to help them make a dent in America The Shires GOOD YEARS BMG **** Bigger sound meets bigger ambition When it comes to UK acts who have flown the country music flag, it’s impossible to gauge just how much impact The Shires have had. Ben Earle and Crissie Rhodes’ music has seen them claim three successive Top 10 album chartings and with that, influence a whole generation of UK artists that country music is a possible outlet that won’t be dismissed. However, thus far, the duo have yet to make a real dent in the American country scene – they have had their fair share of success across the Atlantic, of course, but not to the point they’re a household name in the same breath as say, other duos like Dan + Shay, Florida Georgia Line or Maddie & Tae. But, they are trying to be more of name across the pond and they now have a new label with BMG, which could help them tenfold in the long run – especially with an album to promote that’s as good as ‘Good Years’. The most notable thing about this record is the sound – it’s clear that the duo have gone for a much bigger and bolder sound than they have gone for before, in particular songs like About Last Night, Independence Day and No Secrets, all of which have huge, atmospheric choruses that seem to have been designed with bigger venues in mind. Fans needn’t worry that they have abandoned their beliefs, though – the same honest songwriting is evident all the way through the album. As an example, People Like Us comes across as not only autobiographical, but also as a rap across the knuckles for those who dismiss them, with the message being that they are who they are and that they don’t care what people say as they have each other – and you know, there’s a lot in that. The duo have also opted to work with other songwriters for the first time, too – Lightning Strikes being an example of this – but it works really well for the pair. This is a very strong offering from the pair and who knows, maybe it’ll get them the credit they fully deserve in America. Melanie Glass www.theshiresmusic.com

Zoee

Zoee releases new song 'Nashville' with proceeds going to tornado relief

Rising Australian artist Zoee has released a new song in the shape of Nashville, which is to be used for the US web show ‘Nashville Meets World’. You can listen to the song here. In addition to the song being used for the web show, the Scotland based artist – who co-hosts the show – will be donating all proceeds from the song for the next three months to the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee in order to assist the victims of the recent Nashville tornado. Speaking about the track, the artist explained that – as the name suggests – the song was created from her experiences of the place, while also confirming that the proceeds will be going to charity. “My new single Nashville is a result of my trip to Music City,” Zoee explained. “The proceeds for the following three months are being donated to the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee to aide the victims of the Nashville Tornado disaster.” Zoee’s story is rather unique in the sense that she has travelled all over the world in order to pursue her dream of being a country music singer and was pencilled in to perform at C2C 2020 in Glasgow, before its untimely postponement.
