I’m very excited to share my take on this timeless hymn with everyone.” Rae’s current single, But I Want You, co-written by Jaida Dreyer, Fred Wilhelm, and Jay Knowles, is currently climbing the Music Row chart with strong country radio airplay across the United States and Canada. “But I Want You,” is available on iTunes and Apple Music. Originally from Mount Vernon, Ky., Rae has been sharing her talent with all whom would listen since the age of three. At 12, Rae began to craft her own songs and was a member of the Kentucky All-State Choir. She went on to complete her musical education at University of the Cumberlands and taught choir before focusing on her own artistry. Since 2012, Rae has opened for notable acts like The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, David Cook, Maddie and Tae, and more. Rae recently completed studio work for a full-length studio album in which the street date is to be determined.

Book review: Naked music – The Songbook – Eleanor McEvoy

NAKED MUSIC – THE SONGBOOK Eleanor McEvoy Hot Press Books With her latest album NAKED MUSIC firmly established in the folk catalogue, Eleanor McEvoy has embarked on a worldwide tour and has now published her first ever songbook to support the album. Inspiration for the album came after Eleanor purchased a painting by famed English painter Chris Gollon. She was clearly captivated by his work and a subsequent meeting led to collaboration, with Chris producing four canvasses for the album artwork and Eleanor opening her tour surrounded by 24 Gollon paintings inspired by the songs and titles on NAKED MUSIC. The positive response to the paintings on the album inspired Eleanor to develop the collaboration further and the result is this work of infinite beauty. As well as including lyrics, guitar chords and melodies, 22 of Chris Gollon’s paintings are featured; provocative modern art with a touch of tasteful eroticism. Seven starkly intimate photographs of Eleanor taken by Shane McCarthy are also included; all are head and bare shoulders poses with just one showing Eleanor adorned with jewellery. Producer Mick O’Gorman describes ‘The Journey to Naked Music’ and best-selling author Jackie Hayden explores cross-genre artist collaborations in her introductory essay ‘The Risk and Challenge of Incompatibility’. Comprehensive biographies of both McEvoy and Gollon complete the written work within the songbook. The first single taken from the album, Whisper a Prayer to the Moon is released to coincide with the issue of the songbook. Both discerning folk musicians and art aficionados ought to be magnetically attracted to this special piece of work; and the album’s a great listen as well. John Roffey www.eleanormcevoy.com

George Strait's return to Gruene Hall

Back where it all began, George Strait returned to New Braunfels’ Gruene Hall Wednesday night (Nov. 16.) and performed a nearly two-hour set in celebration of Strait Out of the Box: Part 2, available Friday, Nov. 18. Taking the stage just after 7 p.m., The King of Country Music with his band, The Ace in the Hole Band, kicked off the surprise performance with Here for A Good Time, a song Strait co-wrote with his son, Bubba Strait, and Dean Dillon. For the first time, Strait performed the two brand new songs from Friday’s upcoming release, Kicked Outta Country and You Gotta Go Through Hell, both of which he co-wrote. As awareness of the surprise show grew, a frenzy erupted in the historic township with fans flocking to the dancehall to see and hear Strait through the dusty side screens of Gruene Hall. As the show came to a close, Strait paused for a moment – taking it all in – before walking one final time along the stage’s rim thanking those fans that helped celebrate his return to the storied hall. Fans wanting to see Strait live will be able to purchase tickets to 2017’s newly announced 2 Nights of Number 1’s, a limited-engagement concert series at T-Mobile Arena across four weekends (April 7-8; July 28-29; Sept. 1-2; Dec. 8-9), with tickets on sale beginning Friday.
